Wigan - Leeds service no longer timetabled. Permanent or temporary?

Hi all

Firstly sorry if this has come up elsewhere but I searched and couldn't find an answer.

I've just realised the Wigan - Leeds service (which has been from Wigan North Western of late, previously from Wallgate) has this week ended. Does anyone know why? The temporary/reduced timetable pages on Northern's website make no specific mention this service is affected so has it been dropped generally?

Was hoping to have a nice ride on a 158 this week and spend the day in Leeds wandering around the city (never been on any since refurb and have never spent much time in Leeds since moving north years ago!), looks like I picked the wrong week to do it!

What other services typically use 158s?

If you did a loop round onto the Settle-Carlisle you'd be very unlikely not to find one at some point.

Or if you don't mind whose 158s, the EMR Liverpool-Norwich is almost always 158s with the very occasional 156. Perhaps head down to Warrington then take that for a scenic trip through the Hope Valley to Sheffield? A bonus is that they have the finest seating on the network (don't say the G word :) )

If you particularly wanted to go to Leeds, I think the Sheffield-Leeds stopper has a reasonable chance of being a 158 too, though not 100% certain.

Yes and no. There are trains through to Moston, and buses from there, but there are also direct buses Rochdale - Manchester and passengers from further east are being put on these

If we are being pedantic, the Leeds - Wigan trains (which run via Mirfield) are actually terminating at Hebden Bridge during the engineering work!

Some trains do indeed run through to Moston, but staff have been told passengers must not be told to change to a bus at Moston - Rochdale is the major interchange hub during the work.

With passengers from Brighouse apparently being allowed to travel on TPE via Huddersfield using a “via Hebden Bridge” ticket

There's a temporary easement to allow route 'via Hebden Bridge' tickets to be used via Huddersfield but not via Dewsbury.
