That's why I'm driving Saturday!!Everybody assumes everybody is interested in 'the game'. A train journey to get away from it would be my preference.

I suspect that there may not be too many football related cancellations on TfW or Scotrail….!!![]()
Good luck threatening a driver with that!I would suggest that any employee who falsely claims they are sick are of course opening themselves up to disciplinary action assuming the TOC investigates.
May be an urban legend, but it's allegedly happened at my TOC because the driver in question had seats behind one of the goals and it was a televised game!Good luck threatening a driver with that!
If you are that stupid then you deserve to be disciplined. Some people really are beyond help even by ASLEF.May be an urban legend, but it's allegedly happened at my TOC because the driver in question had seats behind one of the goals and it was a televised game!
Know of a Signalman, years ago did that, went sick ( 1 day before to make it look good), then was seen on TV in the stands of the match he went to, at the end of his next shift, the Manager waiting at the door with the Form 1 for him, there was another Signalman in the 80's went sick (quite often) used to drive a coach for a Seaside Company, this particular night, he was on a popular 'Mystery tour', who should be waiting to get on ? The local Area Manager, after the 'helllo's' etc were passed, he said, I will see you in the Office on Monday morning at 0930May be an urban legend, but it's allegedly happened at my TOC because the driver in question had seats behind one of the goals and it was a televised game!

Doesn’t seem to matter these days after that recent and totally ridiculous case when the guy went sick, was seen down the pub, was sacked but got his job back after a court/tribunal case.If you are that stupid then you deserve to be disciplined. Some people really are beyond help even by ASLEF.
I don't know the details of the case but it's more likely than not that the issue wasn't that he was dismissed but that the correct process wasn't followed. I've seen it happen before.Doesn’t seem to matter these days after that recent and totally ridiculous case when the guy went sick, was seen down the pub, was sacked but got his job back after a court/tribunal case.
Yes, even in apparently egregious cases, a fair process still needs to be followed.I don't know the details of the case but it's more likely than not that the issue wasn't that he was dismissed but that the correct process wasn't followed. I've seen it happen before.

The crowd is only 8,200 but I guess thousands more will descend on the pubs, especially with the Lions playing at 5!And the trains are busy anyway. There is a rugby international in Cardiff on Saturday at 3pm (Wales v Canada) and TfW are warning that trains will be "busy".
The incident mentioned ws certainly an own goalDoesn’t seem to matter these days after that recent and totally ridiculous case when the guy went sick, was seen down the pub, was sacked but got his job back after a court/tribunal case.
