I suspect that there may not be too many football related cancellations on TfW or Scotrail….!!

There is a rugby international in Cardiff on Saturday at 3pm (Wales v Canada) and TfW are warning that trains will be "busy".

May be an urban legend, but it's allegedly happened at my TOC because the driver in question had seats behind one of the goals and it was a televised game!
If you are that stupid then you deserve to be disciplined. Some people really are beyond help even by ASLEF.

Know of a Signalman, years ago did that, went sick ( 1 day before to make it look good), then was seen on TV in the stands of the match he went to, at the end of his next shift, the Manager waiting at the door with the Form 1 for him, there was another Signalman in the 80's went sick (quite often) used to drive a coach for a Seaside Company, this particular night, he was on a popular 'Mystery tour', who should be waiting to get on ? The local Area Manager, after the 'helllo's' etc were passed, he said, I will see you in the Office on Monday morning at 0930 :)

Doesn’t seem to matter these days after that recent and totally ridiculous case when the guy went sick, was seen down the pub, was sacked but got his job back after a court/tribunal case.

I don't know the details of the case but it's more likely than not that the issue wasn't that he was dismissed but that the correct process wasn't followed. I've seen it happen before.

Yes, even in apparently egregious cases, a fair process still needs to be followed.

The crowd is only 8,200 but I guess thousands more will descend on the pubs, especially with the Lions playing at 5!And the trains are busy anyway.

The incident mentioned ws certainly an own goal

I personally have an exemplary attendance record & have had throughout my working life. On the rare occasions I have been I have felt guilty even nipping to the pharmacy.
