Richard Austen Butler, also known as Rab Butler, (1902–1982), was MP for Saffron Walden between 1929 and 1965, before being created Baron Butler of Saffron Walden. He died of colon cancer in March 1982 in Great Yeldham, Essex, and is buried in the churchyard of the parish church of St Mary the Virgin in Saffron Walden.
