I applied in December and am awaiting an assessment invite. I received an email stating that dates for assessment centers have been filled for April and they will be in touch as soon as. I got the same email in March and Feb. However, some ppl on here who applied the same time as me have already sat their assessments, some have just received the invite. Covid has slowed thing down so I guess we all just have to be patient.

Looking for a bit of advice!

I'm currently awaiting an assessment centre date. However, I have just accepted an offer for a job in Oxford. While becoming a train driver is my ultimate goal, I can't pass up a good job despite requiring me to soon relocate outside of the 60min travel time to a depot. I know the recruitment process is often very long for becoming a trainee train driver so I am reluctant to withdraw my application. Do you think it is worth attending the assessment centre to see if I could pass the tests or email HR now to explain my situation where they will probably just remove me from the process on the spot. I could move back to London in very easily if I passed the selection process as I have friends I can live with.

On thing I noticed on a recent LNER recruitment ad was "must live within one hour of the at depot at the time of application. I presume you DID live within one hour, so I'd probably explain to them your circumstances, making sure you stress how honest you're being.

Take the job and continue with your application aswell. Personally I would not say a thing, so many hoops to jump yet that to not take a decent job on the basis that you may get through the entire process. You could get through and sit in the talent pool until your assessment passes expire

Its a tough one.

When you eventually get to an assessment centre, you'll be required to take proof of address (utilities bill etc). I can't exactly remember, but it had to be dated within a recent time period.

Thank you all for your input. Good point on the "at time of application", this makes me feel better about continuing with the process. At assessment centre I can provide proof of address where I currently live (which is within a 60 min travel time) and of course be open about my move to see what they say.

It was 3 tests which consisted of looking for all instance and highlighting specific letters in a row of letters. Pretty much like the one on this link http://www.theopc.co.uk/practicetes...e88d317f-809b-40b1-b5e6-e95febd399a4.pdf&id=3.

1st test was looking all instances for just one particular letter in a row
2nd test was looking for all instances of one particular upper case letter and one particular lower case letter
3rd test was looking for all instances of one particular letter and the also the letter at the beginning of that specific row.

It was time with having maybe 3 or 4 minutes for each test.
As for practice I took a quick look that the pdf that I've linked but you also get a couple of practice goes on the test itself.

Just a quick question re scaat pls mate. The practise tests I've been doing have only been 5 lines of letters with 20 letters per line.

The first test was to find as many H's in and time given was 15 seconds for 5 lines so 3 secs per line.

2nd test was to find as many H's and G's across 5 lines with 20 letters per line and time given was 20 secs so 4 secs a line

3rd test was H's and the first letter of each row with 25 secs so 5 secs per line.

Is the GTR scaat more lines. If so how many

Not too sure, did it on a laptop and didn’t have a mouse used the touchpad for the first one and then switched to touchscreen for the other two. It was faster but I’d select the one below or next to it sometimes, I corrected those mistakes but I’m hoping that they don’t count them as errors or I’m done!

We’ll see soon enough, hoping I don’t have too long to wait!

Can’t say how long it took sorry! Less than 30 mins in all but the actual three tests themselves whizzed by. It was selecting different letters in different cases, you get a practice at each variation beforehand though. I didn’t do much practice before hand I found myself talking aloud though!

R u applying for gtr like me. I've been in a talent pool for virgin for about 9 months and a few gtr jobs came up so I've applied for every local one.

From what I've been told, it's going to be assessments, dmi, mmi, medical, each in a different day.

That's reassuring - I really hope so! The MMI on the same day would be a big added stress after all the tests. I've only got a week to prep for my assessment day too, so every little helps

I have just had my assessment day for Thameslink. The morning was pen & paper tests and the afternoon was computer-aided tests. They marked us and gave us the results at the end of the day.

I passed everything except the Group Bourdon. I got 100% accuracy but not quite enough speed. The assessor said it was really close. Having passed everything else, including the more involved concentration tests, I'm absolutely gutted.

3 people from my test group made it through though which I'm really happy about because they were all really lovely people!

I'll try again in 6 months, I guess. Good luck everyone!

Sorry to hear that TheFish, but your attitude is commendable. I've failed the assessment process once before and it's easy to beat yourself up over it and obsess, but at least now you know what's required for a pass. I failed my MMI interview first time round, all expired after 5 years and had to do the paper, computer and MMI interviews all over again second time and passed. Never lose hope!

i'm sorry to hear that. but, at least you know what you need to do to pass next time, and it sounds like you were very close so should be ok the next time round. sometimes it's just comes down to luck on the day. do you remember roughly how far you got down the page for the group bourdon?
