Yes. There is a common list between TL and GN - 2nd and 4th on the list to go to GN Welwyn depot are currently at Cricklewood TL for example. And yes Southern is completely seperate (I'm not sure off the top of my head, but Southern may share with Gatwick Express with transfers. I'm not 100% sure on that though.)

Yes Southern and Gatwick Express are aligned. A few were thinking of transferring to the coastal depots. They drive each other's services I believe at certain depots.
If you want to eventually end up at a different depot than the one you applied for a vacancy at, you have to do two years productive work there first before you can go on the lateral transfer list to swap depots.
Bedford is the depot with the highest number waiting to transfer there, with almost 50. Basically, that driver who's bottom of the list is going to have to wait for about half the depot to retire or die before they get there.
Peterborough is second with nearly 25 (so about a third of the depot need to die or retire before the bottom of the list gets there)
Luton is popular at just under twenty.
Cambridge has almost 15 on it's waiting list, but has about 90 drivers currently, so proportionally isn't as bad.
Kings Cross is a small depot now that most drivers were moved to the new traincrew depot at Hornsey. Theres only about 36 drivers for GTR at Kings Cross now, making it the same size depot as King Lynn. Both Kings Cross and Kings Lynn have a similar sized waiting list at 6-8 but that's proportionally longer than Cambridge's, although they tend to have a higher proportion of older drivers which might make a vacancy come around more quickly.
The other depot's waiting lists aren't too bad with single figures currently
Having said all that, if someone retires at Kings Lynn, a person currently at Cambridge will fill the vacancy, and a person from Welwyn will fill that one, and someone from Hornsey will move into that one. So there's a whole chain reaction from one person retiring.
.
congratulations on passing Aftv49, well done. could you give us an insight in to what questions you were asked?.... and was it TL or southern your DMI? thanks

Whilst some questions are common (as they are to any job interview), i.e why do you want to work here, what do you know about the company etc? GTR I know require you to answer another SJE exercise prior to your DMI and this then shapes the questions HR will send to the hiring manager to ask of you.
This means that it’s better to be prepared more, ‘holistically’ shall we say, for the DMI rather than asking for specific questions to answer as getting alternative questions may then throw you.
It is, however, fair to say that you can expect some competency based questions that might be a bit more outside the box than those at MMI. Be prepared to talk through in the same (STAR) format. Research the company and the job description but overall relax, be professional and polite but also try to enjoy the interview. Whilst I don’t start a comedy routine in interviews, I do try to be upbeat and demonstrate the personality of someone they’d want to work with.
Also, make sure you have some questions to ask. Their experience of working for the company perhaps, or something about the role you’re curious about, they’ll tell you all the guts of the package like the salary and schedule etc. so make sure it’s more interesting than that. And honest not pointless. It’s your opportunity to see if the company is the right fit for you too. I know we all want that sparkly new key but it’s still nice to get a sense of who your potential boss is too.
When it comes to the MMI the questions and answer model are already on here.

Hi Matty, thanks for pitching in with a response. I was focusing more on the DMI and not MMI for Southern in particular.

although I gathered the DMI do be more relaxed, focusing more on History of company, and questions trying to find out more about you as a person and if our cut out for the role. you mentioned about extending on the MMI questions , is this from your own personal experience? I'm beginning to think that Southern have a very different approach to other subsidiary companies within GTR....
id really like to know what random question on the Southern DMI people have been asked???? thanks

PS, Point well mentioned about being prepared more historically", rather then for the specific question.... makes sense!
So I’m shortly starting with GTR from a campaign that started last May I believe. Had my medical a few weeks ago now. Still on edge with the way the world is at the moment but my notice is in now so I can only hope it all goes as planned!
The core part of the process is coordinated from go ahead house and is common across all the sub brands however my DMI was with hiring managers at TL/GN not southern. How similar they are then I can’t tell you as I imagine historical processes may have endured.
However the DMI and the pre-interview questionnaire was coordinated from GTR in Croydon so I would suspect some similarities.
To be frank the DMI is a bit of a blur as it was back in January and the lockdown has given me memory block lol.
However my enduring impression was of an interview that could be a bit more investigative with the questions asked. The MMI is basically set questions.
For example I don’t like to fail to complete tasks very much and one question I got was how I’d handled a time when I hadn’t been able to solve a customer’s problem (might have been any problem but it made me recall a time from when I was in a customer facing role). This sort of leads you into the potential to talk about your performance negatively however is actually a good opportunity to demonstrate how you handled the difficulty, how you persevered and most importantly what you learned and how you might have grown from it. Moreover in a customer oriented company it allows you to demonstrate empathy for a customer’s problem.
That is just one example and I have no idea if I aced that question or scraped it but just shows how you may approach a question like that and how they can be more difficult to answer as they aren’t the standard “name a time when...” type.
I still think that if you’ve got a DMI you’re at the stage someone has glanced at your CV and thinks you should have the experience to pass the interview (otherwise what a waste of valuable time for the company as they take over an hour each out of a Depot or performance manager’s day). So you’ve probably got what it takes. Start from that positive point and take your time before answering. Overwhelmingly I’ve had lovely interviewing managers (it’s a tough job for them too and so a positive interview can help their day pass better), just be someone they want to work with. Approachable, happy, thankful for their consideration and tap into the experience you probably already have.

thanks again Mattydo, Its nice that there are people such as yourself on this forum willing to share their experiences with those like me, you've somewhat helped me and for that I am grateful. Of course congratulations is in order for securing a post even if your uncertain about the start date, (who amongst us wouldn't love to be in your position!) I myself have already passed my MMI a few years ago..... so now have only the DMI left to do with Southern after passing Scaat test and SJT. I applied to both GTR and Southern but didn't hear back from GTR, shame as it was my preference as they are closer to home, they have better routes and not to mention traction..... so well done again!
yes your right about my the securing the DMI, someone in recruitment has glanced at my CV and given me the nod, now I've just gotta convince the DM I'm right for the job.

if the truth be told passed both MMI and DMI a few years ago, long story short i couldn't start the job and nor could they hold the post for me, i know, it was massive shame but such is life sometimes.... but anyway I'm back on the bandwagon and most of my assessments including the MMI were in date.... iIwas aware that different DMI are done differently by different TOCS, its not as straight forward as the MMI but nor is it as complex.... yes the MMI was a little tough but not impossible..... I would say that there is very good information on this on this site. the 6 six standard question did come up for me on the MMI but so did a great number of probing questions for each one, such as "why did you do that the way you did" or " could you have done that better and if so how" etc. just have you answered prepared and also defiantly counter for those probing questions. hope that helps.

Been invited for tests over a week ago, was only able to to them 2 last days before the deadline. All 2 days was refreshing website, trying opening it on different devices, browser and also diffrent Internet networks - website was down all the time. Emailed them 3 times, no reply at all. Since then, they only informed me that they're sorry I chose not to complete the tests
Website started working day after deadline at 3 pm.
Hiya all. I am a little curious about something- for those of you that have already undertaken the assessment day, has anyone heard back that they were successful & are moving onto the DMI/MMI stage, and if so, how long after the assessment day did you hear? I've heard people that were *unsuccessful* heard on the day of the assessment, but obviously it may vary depending on the situation. Thanks in advance

Thanks for your answer. I have a friend who has been waiting several weeks now which I thought was a little unusual, so I may suggest that he should contact HR at this point! Congrats by the way
