I'm going to Alton Towers on Monday (4th), the nearest train stations are Uttoxeter and Stoke on Trent, both have bus services to the park.

Cheapest wasyto get there I've found is:

08:00 > 09:57
Standard Off-peak Single Euston to Uttoxeter: £17.90

19:07 > 21:25
First Advance Single Uttoxeter to Euston: £19.45

These are with my railcard discount. I also hold a London Z12 Season.

I think it's pretty good but thought I'd check here to see if anyone can best that!

Maybe see if you can get advance fares from boundary zone 2, other forum members can confirm this?

you could do it for a lot less on London Midland, but it would cost you a couple of hours at the park.

Why not just get a London to Stoke or Uttoxeter off-peak return for £36 which is valid on any Virgin train?

(Sorry, I didn't spot you had a first-class return, I doubt that you will beat that price).

with half price and 2 for 1 vouchers being available, I imagine that a combined ticket would be more expensive anyway.

In the end we've decided to drive even with those cheap fares... ~£80 train+bus or ~£40 car.

It's a shame rail travel is so expensive...

True... but like a lot of people, I have a car and have to insure it anyway.... The cost of going via train or via car, and *always* going by train or by car is very different :)

Do VT and EMT not still do their inclusive tickets?

Nope. ISTR that Virgin stopped doing them at some point during the WCRM, Stagecoach dropped them almost as soon as they took over from NatEx on the MML, and the Central Trains offer via Uttoxeter disappeared at around the same time as well.

Cheers,

Barry
