Mm back to accusations of being in a party by asking questions? We went over this, projection of polarised views only exposes the accuser, not the inquisitor.
Well, if restrictions aren’t saving lives, I’m misreading all of the evidence available to me.
Given the way in which the governments (UK and devolved administrations) have spent most of this year encouraging mask shaming and snitching on your neighbours, isn't it a bit late now to try appealing to a sense of national unity, as they appear to be doing here?
Lockdown messaging really is like a drug, isn’t it? Ever increasing amounts of fear need to be deployed for the same level of compliance. Note that “Stop the spread” has been substituted for “protect the NHS”, since as mentioned in another thread the idea of the NHS being under threat will rapidly become decreasingly credible.
When Scottish Government public health messages come on TV, I stop listening. I expect many others do too. Life is far less depressing if you spend a week avoiding the news too (and obviously avoid the daily show with Nicola).

Not many I’d imagine. And with the time of day it’s on at, the clientele that would watch it are probably the least likely to be affected by restrictions so will quite happily do as she says.

Indeed, perhaps especially in the case of closing non-essential retail. If people can't go out and go to the shops, they simply go out anyway without going to the shops but they do still go out.

Our region, having roughly 30-60 cases a week is now in a tier 4 strict lockdown to prevent the NHS from being “overwhelmed” (my dad works at the local hospital and says it’s very quiet indeed). We were in level 1 a mere 2 days ago. We have all the NHS adverts from our local adverts saying things are “serious” in this region and we must “protect our health service”, when in fact it’s nowhere near overwhelmed. It’s the lies behind this that angers me.
That’s absolutely what is happening. I have to say I don’t entirely get the pastime of spending a few hours in a shop just for the sake of it, but it’s exactly what’s happening.
What’s clear is people are sick of being at home. The politicians don’t quite seem to have latched on to this.
It would quite probably be preferable to keep as many non-essential shops as possible open, perhaps even with extended hours, to spread things out.
Round here walking is the big thing again, but this has become problematic as every single local rural footpath is now so badly churned up with the combination of rain and increased footfall, as to be almost impassable. There’s also been quite a bit of conflict between walkers, runners and cyclists - I suppose the silver lining to this is that local Facebook is now taken up with posts moaning about selfish runners and cyclists, so they’re not whipping up Covid fear between themselves!

Depends what the terms of reference are for whoever heads up the inquiry. One doesn't usually set up an inquiry without establishing its findings beforehand!!
Masks...everywhere! (outside places she’ll love that)
Schools delayed further (as I believe that’s happening in England?)
Journalists to stay home
Jeane Freeman to join ASDA (giggles)
Just more of the same measures which are patently not working.
Masks outside is one where I think we’d descend into civil disobedience pretty rapidly. Enough people (myself included) won’t comply, and that I think would turn into a flashpoint.
There must surely come a point where this burns itself out, simply by way of running out of people to infect. In the absence of mass gatherings one would think most people are confined to fairly limited networks of people, even notwithstanding the amount of inter-household meeting up which is clearly still going on (all those cars on the roads in the evenings...).
Schools may of course be the exception to this, of course, but surely there must be at least some bubbling going on there?
I'm not sure if the Scottish Government can allow it, but is there any power to suspend the cross-border rail and coach services? I understand it would wreak havoc but with so few people travelling at the minute it might be something they are considering.
I can probably see Scotrail and the bus companies being instructed to run a minimal service, possibly back to March levels.
Schools and Colleges probably shut until Easter. (Well I'm scuppered as I'm on a Photography course, and it'll be worse if they tell us not to leave our home unless essential).

Masks outside right now would be a nightmare - the other day I left the shop with a load of shopping in both hands, so at first I didnt take my mask off. But it very quickly got wet with the condensation from being in the cold and breathing on it. There's no way that is healthy if we were all made to do it.
