Well spotted. 319007 had a bit of a crack in the cab at least as far back as January 2016, but had been repaired (complete with mismatched paint) by summer 2016

So TfW's repaint is a cheap job, I guess, because they didn't repaint the yellow!

It wouldn't be surprising if it was vinyl wrap over the Thameslink base white rather than full-on paint (although if it is painted do feel free to correct me).

I think they might be painted to be honest - it's a simple enough scheme that there's no real benefit to pain over vinyl other than speed of application - it's the fact that the window surrounds are in black though that's the strongest hint they're painted - that'd be a pain to do with vinyl

Either way, there's no real benefit to repainting the front end in a different hue of yellow, so it's not surprising that it wasn't done. No point either then ordering in some yellow for just that patch on the one unit

I don’t believe any 769’s came out yesterday. What was the issue with 007.
I think the next unit out in the new year should be one of the first class one’s.

Had a few issues with the MA (motor alternator). It’s out again today and will be tomorrow too. 452 is having a few repairs to a leaky roof. Should be out on 5th Jan followed by 445 not long after.

2021 issue of modern railways about the issues tfw had with their class 769s and that it looks like they will be cascaded from the rhymney line in 2023 to work a Cardiff to Bristol tm service

How did they change the unit number without repainting? Are the numerals stickers than can be peeled off?

P.S. Clearly nobody has reprogrammed the PIS yet, because the destination indicator says "Thameslink".

I think that they are stickers (/vinyl) that are removed and applied as necessary. Certainly don't think they're painted on!

They're reportedly rather sluggish on diesel.

Will they be able to path them through the two-track section between Severn Tunnel Junction and Filton Junction? Optimistically, maybe Filton-Temple Meads will be electrified by then and they'll be able able to pop the pantographs back on?

Unit numbers are just stickers that are applied.

AIUI the nine class 769s are to exclusively operate as DEMUs between Rhymney and Penarth only.

This latest is suggestion for life for these units after they are replaced on the rhymney line

I'm not very up-to-date on Valleys developments these days, but I seem to recall that initial plans were only to run to Cardiff, but revised plans in the past few years will have them going to Penarth.

I have seen some photos on a Facebook group of the 769s in Penarth and, if I remember correctly, one has run there in service.

No. Nothing in service. One has been working a particular diagram but only up until lunchtime solely between Rhymney and Cardiff. They have been to Penarth, as you say, but only testing or training.
