Class 332 final week and scrap moves

Yes, quite a long consist, presumably to add brake force - there was one translator vehicle coupled either side of the 9-coaches of 332 and a number of flat wagons.

Looked to me reminiscent of this formation, but with the 332s - 332012 then 332005 in the consist rather than a brand new 701.

I'm interested to note that 66748 had to go back to Eastleigh yesterday after arriving at Old Oak Common so that two 6V33 trains ran yesterday.

Monday 7th December:-

332008 on Circuit ‘A’, started with 0512 Heathrow T5 to Paddington
332007 on Circuit ‘B’ started at CTA with 0522 to Heathrow T5 then 0542 Heathrow T5 to Paddington
332006 on Circuit ‘C’ started with 0525 Paddington to Heathrow T5

If the decommissioning order is anything to go by, I’d expect 332005 to be unit on scrap move tomorrow; or units 005 and 012 if it’s a pair.

332008 took over from 332006 for the 1325 Paddington to Heathrow T5 onwards.

Unconfirmed reports on Twitter I can’t verify either way right now that the 332s have been granted somewhat of a reprieve and the first 387s will now not be in service until either the week betwixt Christmas and New Year or even into the New Year itself.

I'll miss these a lot. A pleasant way to finish a work trip and get back to the office. Whilst I understand that the units were worn out mechanically, the interiors were always spotless and the seats very comfortable.

About a decade ago, it was practice to accept Travelcards on HEx when the Piccadilly Line was shut; which was dropped soon afterwards (I did it in 2009). I have bought 'proper' HEx fares several times since.

HEx also (pre-Covid) did do some non-fixed train Advance fares, which were very, very reasonable at weekends if you booked 90 days in advance (higher prices if you booked closer to travel). Not sure if any are being offered at the moment.

I think you'd be touching in on the HEx barriers at Paddington, which may not have a fare to Hayes defined on them.

I was wondering how the HEX barriers work, if they're normal oyster barriers then there should be no problems but if they only have journeys for Central and T5 then you'll have a hard time explaining to the gate staff what you did.

This is pure speculation but wouldn't it need to be a normal gate in the event that other service would need to use them?

No, they are HEx-specific barriers. In the event a non-HEx service uses the platforms, passengers should be directed through the vehicle gate by the buffers to use the "regular" barriers / validators.

Right so finishing at Paddington is out of the question but what about tapping in at the HEX barriers and tapping out at Hayes? Wonder what would happen then.
