AIUI Southern drivers based at Redhill have six(?) scheduled turns on the North Downs Line to Reading each weekday, driving First Great Western Class 165s and 166s in passenger service. I was wondering how widespread his practice is across the network and whether a similar arrangement for guards also existed?

Though maybe not an example that the OP is looking for, for many months following the breaking up of the Central Trains franchise, (Arriva) Cross Country guards (and drivers?) continued to work Cross City line services in Birmingham. I presume they covered other local London Midland services too. This seemed to go for ages, maybe more then a year? I'm sure Mumrar will be able to confirm.

The trains out of Newcastle to Dumfries and Glasgow Central via Carlisle are worked by Northern as far as Carlisle and Scotrail after that.

Correct, New St XC guards covered LM Cross City work from Nov 07-Dec 08, only on Mon-Fri and never any other routes. Also, some Worcester LM guards still did some New St-Cardiff for not as long and I also recall (might be going mental though) some EMT guards doing New St-Nottingham for a while too. Can't speak for the better paid end of the train though.

fcc drivers only go to orpington and sevenoaks (only bedford/blackfriars drivers), and southeastern go all the way to bedford (victoria/orpington drivers).

Didn't the tpx services to scotland used to be driven by freightliner drivers from carlisle/preston?

Freightliner has a contract to supply drivers to TPE for their Anglo-Scottish services.

I think there's some early morning TPE/Northern working in the Scarborough and Cleethorphes areas as well.

Yes and on FNW strike days Virgin services terminated short.

There were also some FNW/ATW inter-working on the two Chester to Manchester routes after the Manchester-Warrington-Chester route was transferred to the Welsh franchise.

I also remember some 350s used to change from a CT service to a Silverlink service at Rugby. Did the crews always swap over at that exact point?

not always only the trent valley services had a crew swap there when they first started, the through brum services were either a crew swap at norhampton from bletchley/watford crew to coventry/new street crew, or northampton crew would work all the way through, the rugby terminators were bletchley or nortampton crews.

also southern and southeaster share the london bridge-redhill-tonbridge services.

TPE drivers do the Northern Barton to Cleethorpes line I think?

LM guards used to work EMT Crewe to Derby trains but were displaced when EMT opened their own depot at Derby for local work.

Think Virgin used to drive the SR sleepers in the early days of privatisation as well.

Since December 2009 timetable change, the Bedford trains to Gillingham have been terminating at Rochester due to congestion at Gillingham caused by the Victoria stopping services starting/terminating from there instead of Faversham.

dont know if this is still the case but there are two duties at Leicester (XC depot) whereby a driver and senior conductor worked an EMT train to and from Lincoln from Leicester and 2 shuttles along the Ivanhoe line and also a late evening return from Nottingham - Worksop and back.

The lincoln job was my favourite when I was there but im not sure if they still do it

Nope all gone. Leicester now stuck on a triangle with Brum and Nottingham..
Us at Cambridge cross covered EMT 158s for a bit on Norwich - Nottingham.
I miss the work purely for varieties sake...

Chiltern drivers (Banbury depot) work some of the Wrexham & Shropshire services south of Banbury and also do most of the empty stock moves between Marylebone and Wembley.

Under Central Trains we used to work Midland Mainline 170's on the Nott's Coventry's, complete with Midland Mainline Trolley service.

I'm sure I've seen ATW staff on a Cardiff - Bristol service at least once.
They used to work right through to Westbury, I'm unsure if that's still the case, but they certainly work between Cardiff and Bristol. I've seen an ATW driver waiting to pick up a working from BPW before now as well in the last year.
ATW lost the contract for guards staffing FGW services a fair while back.

The SWT service to Penzance was crewed by FGW from Exeter to Penzance and return.

This certainly continued on for a while, they use the EMT 158 (or 156 if that's how it falls, as seen here) stabled at Crown Point over night.

Wait, my bad, that's Lowestoft. I'd remembered Yarmouth myself!
