How ridiculous extending it on the day it was supposed to finish. Couldn’t make it up.

Last person out of Britain switch off the lights.
Sounds like the same government which leaves franchise negotiations to the last day as well...
I'm starting to think that it was actually a good thing that I wasn't old enough to vote in December: I have no responsibility for the current government now! Had life continued as "normal" (whatever that may be!) after 2015 I would have been able to vote.

So much of this is the same as March, isn’t it. Promises of magic tests, vaccines, lockdown to figure things out a bit more in terms of medical treatment, rubbish questions from journalists, deliberate glossing over of any data which shows this is basically irrelevant for anybody of working age with nothing fundamentally wrong with them in terms of underlying health issues...

The lack of hard, deep dive, data driven questioning from journalists is really depressing.

It wasn't just me then. I must say the viewing the 'next slide please' made riveting listening on radio.
I'll admit I was rather confused when Chris Whitty made reference to the "listeners and viewers"; last time I checked PowerPoint doesn't work over radio... :D

Don't worry, in the future Britain will be able to pay it all of with all of those high income jobs from a highly educated workforce with all manner of international trading as a leading voice in a global superpower. Oh wait
At least education is still continuing (at the moment!).
Sounds like a pretty good excuse if that's your thing, golf will likely be off the cards for November although with the typcial British weather that's normal!
I'd better book some tickets then!
On a more serious note, I'll wait to see what official advice is published.
They have a period of time to prove they do have the confidence of the house, otherwise the opposition attempt to prove they have the confidence, or if that fails - general election
Sounds fun...
I bet you within a week they change it again.
Question is, more restrictive or less?
Do we get the pots and pans out again for every Thursday night in November?
Well, Thursday this week is Guy Fawkes night. Perhaps someone will get their barrel of gunpowder out as well...

(Note that I'm not being serious!)

Even better when your watching the conference and the next slide has appeared before "next slide please"!!!!

But everyone is going to be broke as every country is doing the same thing practically.
Undoubtedly some countries will emerge less broke than others...
The question I have is if every country is borrowing money like it's a magic money tree, where is the money coming from, and how long before it runs out?

Honest question - if I walk a long way out of my city, can I get a bus back? Is that allowed?

When I was in the initial lockdown, I was stuck at home either way, but now I'm stuck for a month in a city that I hate...

A shame that it's one day too late for the vote on Wednesday "Remember Remember the 6th of November" just doesn't have the same ring

It would surely have to be a confidence issue? If it fails to pass then the House surely has no confidence in HM Government.
I'll admit to not being very up-to-speed with stuff like this; what does that actually mean? Does the world end? :D

Incorrect I’m afraid. Because of the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act 2011, only a motion worded precisely “That this House has no confidence in Her Majesty’s Government” triggers the fourteen-day countdown.

Prior to that Act, the prime minister of a government which lost a Commons vote on a “major” topic would be bound, by precedent, to tender his or her resignation to the queen, or call an election. What counts as “major” was never especially clear, save that a budget would definitely be “major”.

Does anybody know about foreign travel? Preston said it was going to be banned, but no mention by Boris. I'm due to go on a much needed holiday (plus quarantine) in two weeks, but tempted to bring it forward to Wednesday now....

Johnson is now completely finished on short order. Two bungled lockdowns is something he simply cannot survive.

I wonder if he’s even still going to be there by Christmas now.

The news reports prior to the conference said that outbound flights would not be permitted (except for business purposes).
Personally, I would have thought it would make more sense to stop inbound flight: people leaving become the problem of the country they land in!

He may want out by Christmas, but nobody will want to replace him until well into the new year

Just go for your walk and get the bus back and stop needlessly worrying about these restrictions. Support your transport operators and use common sense.

That would risk stranding rich photogenic pensioners abroad.

PR disaster.

I don’t think it’s going to be whether he wants out, but whether his position becomes completely and utterly untenable. I think he’s now very close to that point.
We could always give Labour a go (I can't believe I said that!)...

Itll be interesting to see what happens. It’s been said BoJo will need to rely on Labour votes to get it through, but that has its problems: with the recent suspension of Corbyn, those who followed him may defy Starmer who was very vocal about us needing another lockdown, but those who were/are now very anti-Corbyn will probably be easily persuaded to follow Starmer in the vote to approve the lockdown.

You are quite right my apologies  It's been a while since I read the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act and for some reason got it into my head that there was still a mechanism for a vote on another matter to be considered a confidence matter and therefore potentially trigger all the usual shenanigans that would result.

During that speech, you could easily make a drinking game out of it:

Drink one shot every time somebody said "Next Slide Please"
Drink two shots every time someone said "eh" or "uh"
Drink three shots every time "NHS" was mentioned

Just some humor.

So we have some of the government voting with the opposition, some of the opposition voting with the government, some voting for the "correct" side. Recipe for confusion and delay? That Fat Controller will not be amused!

There isn't anybody willing to take over from him so he'll either have to step down through I'll health or just hang on until there's a challenge from the opposition, (which doesn't want the chalice whilst it's still full of poison).

I'd take Sunak right now
