Well we may see something happen with this takeover you've mentioned. Or not. Surely there is a bus firm out there who could have one bus a day run a shuttle to and from the airport? Sounds easy, but bet it never happens.

Of course there is - but there's also scope for one train a day... never going to happen though.

I wonder what kind of work would be needed to change the timetable to have the station a request stop? Might add on a few minutes to a journey but then this might affect pathing through Eaglescliffe and Darlington.

is there that many flights from the airport? I heard that passenger numbers have declined at the airport.

Same here, everytime I go past it always seems to have small Eastern Airways planes on the tarmac, don't think I've ever seen even a small type jumbo jet there before.

Passengers at Durham Tees Valley:
2006 - 900,000 per year
2009 - under 300,000 per year

Remember when it was renamed 'Durham Tees Valley' from 'Tees-side Airport', and no-one in the rail industry bothered to change the station name :D

As far as I know, Vancouver Airport Services are fighting to change the name back to teesside, as its wider known (and is in Teesside's old boundaries)...

And there's mainly small Eastern Airways planes to Aberdeen & Southampton, but KLM offer Amsterdam 3x daily, Onur Air to Turkey, Thomson to various destinations, FlyBE to Jersey on a Saturday and Ryanair to Alicante 1x a week (Thursday), too.

The big thing was the loss of BMI's feeder service to Heathrow (and, to a lesser extent, the low-cost routes offered by their sister airline BMI-Baby). It was losing money big time for BMI, because slots at Heathrow are so valuable. Three times a day to Amsterdam is still excellent, however; as at many regional British airports KLM are a pretty good feeder to a worldwide network.

So if they want to repoition the station to the right side of the terminal, ow do they do it, I take it its more of a case of rebuilding the station, not moving the actual line. :D

@jamesontheroad : Yeah, but surely KLM could do with that boost too!

Went slightly off topic, does anyone know anything at all about services to/from the station?

The train services?

The train services?

I meant like whether Northern were looking in to request stops, etc.
And i think they wanted to create a stub line for a terminus there?

Dunno anything about the terminus, but if they can just get ten people to use each train that calls a week, Northern will look into expanding services, I hope :D

Leeds seems a bit of an odd choice to fly to. I would have thought that the rail service from Darlington would have been quicker and simpler than flying to Leeds.

I believe it's a two-stop flight Aberdeen - Teeside - Leeds Bradford. More cost effective than operating two separate flights.

It takes exactly 1 hour DTV-ABD, so I'm guessing to LDS in about 20-30 mins? :D

Ahh that would make sense, at least more so than just a Leeds - Teesside flight anyway!

Just having a look now looks like it takes 2hrs or so by train with 1 or 2 changes. Darlington to Leeds has a half-hourly direct service that takes about an hour. Way easier than a flight even if it only takes 20-30 mins by plane.

Don't worry, planes haven't replaced Northern Rail just yet :D Durham - Leeds isn't bookable on easternairways.com. BMI Regional (the other subsidiary of BMI) sometimes used to combine their EDI-LBA and GLA-LBA flights into a single GLA-EDI-LBA flight when there were tech problems or low passenger numbers. That would be the last gasp of the airline industry fighting the three (and soon to be four) rail lines across the central belt :D

like it used to

Think the only reason it runs only on a Sunday is due to lack of units during weekdays. It would be interesting to see what the passenger flow is like from Hartlepool - Darlington during the week. On Sundays hardly anyone uses the service.

what about making dtv a request stop when a passenger boards he asks the conductor for dtv andhe informs the driver same if someone wants to get on at dtv put a spped restriction in on the apporach and a driver can see if a passenger wants to get on by them raising there hand much same as getting on a bus i know there is a lot of scottish rural stations that opperate this way

Would there be any real demand for a train service to DTV airport? I just looked at the flight schedules; today there are 9 departures, the first two of which are at 06:30 and 06:40. A two-hourly service would be no use to anyone. Even a twice-hourly service would attract few passengers, and remember that stopping a train isn't "free" - it uses more fuel and slows down the service for all those passengers who don't wish to use that station.
