You mean the depot back home sometimes has 378s?! I am so going there when I return to Southend next week!
Pretty much everything of note has been listed by W-on-Sea. The Airport station is supposedly due to open September 6th (the day I come back to Bath
), and is a seemingly glass structure. You will know you are near (when approaching from the south) because you pass under a bridge and then are quite literally immediately east of the airport itself.
If you want to go to Shoeburyness "depot" for some photting or similar, there is a spot from which you can view the whole area really well, which proves useful for the annual November fireworks! You will see a road next to Platform 1, which does not connect with the High Street (the road the line ends on). This is Terminal Close, home to many warehouses. If you walk down there, you will reach Wallace Street; you should see a large black bridge which you will have passed under just before entering the station. Depending on where on the bridge you stand, and assuming it hasn't changed recently (don't know when I last crossed it
), you can get some great shots of the sidings from the buffer end. When done, keep going the same way, and eventually after a footpath you will reach the Health Centre car park. Turn right onto Ness Road (a large vacant building reminiscent of, and formerly (!), a cinema is on the right), until you reach a five-way roundabout (at this point you're five minutes from my home
). Go right onto Elm Road, and you will see a bridge - the most easterly road bridge on the LTS line. From up there, you can get some great shots of both the sidings and the washing facility. Just note that the paths are quite narrow...
