XC may receive the ex LNER HSTs for extra capacity........
They almost certainly won’t. I think you need to be realistic here, there are numerous other threads about XC, and no one seriously expects any more HSTs.

But you started this discussion about Chiltern, and I’m betting they’ll never see any HSTs either.

I heard that XC may get 222s from EMR as extra capacity....... But I think XC can get 221s from Avanti......

HSTs are rapidly becoming the new 442s.

...and Chiltern is rapidly becoming the new home for all sorts of speculation/suggestions (e.g. in recent times I've been told that we should electrify it, we should introduce 1970s trains on it, we should introduce lots of destinations from Marylebone when we open East-West, we should quadruple track it, we should hand over part of it to the London Underground, we should replace the existing services when we re-open the GCR)...

Unless it's allows the lengthening of the 2-car services into London, it's a pointless exercise as it misses the most needed thing for the franchise rolling-stock-wise (followed by removing diesel emissions from Central London and Birmingham, but that's more an infrastructure thing).

What the CML ideally needs most is electrification. It's the perfect route for it really. Otherwise bi-modes if electrification was only forthcoming to say Banbury.

As for the HSTs, not really suitable for Chiltern in the short or long-term.

That it does. All London commuter routes should be electrified. Then you'd use Aventra type stock for locals and 397 type stock for IC.

I think this thread is rapidly going to become another 'new stock for Chiltern' or 'electrify the Chiltern mainline' type threads! With plenty of HST and non-HST related stuff too by the looks of it!

Had they become available for lease about ten years ago then there's a small possibility Chiltern would have had some instead of the loco-hauled sets, but I'd say there's precicely zero chance of it happening now. In fact there's zero chance of Chiltern introducing any new rolling stock this side of the franchise renewal, unless a direct award is granted.

For what benefit? what are you trying to achieve by doing it?
Love popping this question. The answers to which normally reveal a strong desire to have ready made unsuitable solutions to non existent public problems in order to satisfy a personal desire to maintain a halt to the industry's ever modernising rolling stock procurement splurge in nostalgic perpetuety.
