ITINERARY
For those of a certain age, The Midlander will immediately evoke
memories of steam hauled services between Birmingham New
Street and London Euston with an LMS Jubilee in charge. With this
in mind, whilst we've replaced the Jubilee with an LMS Princess
Class Pacific in the form of No. 6201 Princess Elizabeth, we have
remained true to The Midlander ideals as this train will run directly
from Birmingham New Street to London Euston!
As a result of close liaison with and careful operational planning on
the part of our industry colleagues at Network Rail, those people
lucky enough to secure a seat on this train will enjoy not only an
LMS Princess Class Pacific haulage from Birmingham's premier
LMS station for the first time in the preservation era, but also
witness the first LMS Princess Class Pacific to work right up to the
buffer stops at Euston since the end of steam.
Join us on this historic working, as we run diesel hauled from
Tyseley Warwick Road to Birmingham New Street, for steam
throughout to Euston via Coventry and Rugby, with a steam
hauled return working from Euston and back to Tyseley Warwick
Road via Nuneaton.
A very significant charter, this could well be the first and last steam train to power a train from the current New Street station. Ever since it was reopened, steam was banned due to being classed as an underground station, and with 25kV overheads too. Of course we all know that the station is undergoing another rebuild now. Just how many people will turn out there to see it eh (count me IN)?

I'll be there plus I'll probably be on it to London.

Seems like a great tour - I wonder if it'll set the fire alarms off @ New Street! :) ;)

It shouldn't do, they key part of the planning is the train will arrive behind a Class 47 into one of the low numbered platforms. The steam will arrive, and stop out at the a) end, never passing beneath the station structure. The steam loco will then depart down the Stour South tunnel towards Coventry, job done. I guess this is why it is fine by Network Rail, as the loco won't be doing the exact thing the ban was made to avoid happening.

New St being New St will they allow people to congregate on the platform to watch what is going on? Not sure if you can buy platform tickets these days.

Well the amount a local ticket costs these days they could just buy a ticket!

New St to Five Ways is only £1 :~( maybe its not as cheap as I thought it was.
But its still cheap to see a 'once in a life time' opportunity (maybe)!

Id advise against a one way ticket, think what will happen when you go back up

How about New st- Dudddeston rtn if no platform tickets are being sold?

"I've just had a telephone call, I need to cancel this journey now and need to leave the station"
I've done that a few times at various stations and never had any problems

You could even try your luck and get a refund on the unused ticket which was only used to access the platforms

I hope it gets some good publicity, especially for Vintage trains who have worked hard towards this tour plus many others.

Take some good shots folks, lets see them appear asap
