Does anyone know if Northern are doing a pacer farewell tour? If so does anyone know any details? Thanks!

Interesting. Presumably they want the other half.
What's WNXX, can I access it?
K
I don't know what WNXX stands for or means, but it's another online railway forum that has existed since before RailUK, apparently. You have to be a member to see threads / posts, and registering is free but you have to wait to be "approved"). Also, threads seem to be locked after not very long from what I saw. If I understand rightly, it also has some sort of publication which I believe requires a (paid...?) subscription.

Hopefully I'm not going too far off topic to answer this, but in a roundabout sort of way it is linked so here goes...

Once upon a time locomotives (and I imagine all rolling stock) were allocated into 'pools', which to make things easier for paperwork, TOPS and the like had codes. Perhaps HNTP for Heaton TransPennine, HNNE for Heaton North East (not necessarily accurate, just to get the idea ;) )

In time when locos etc are ready for withdrawal, I seem to remember pool codes like WNXX, WNYX and WNZX are used. Something along the lines of 'Withdrawn stored serviceable', 'Withdrawn stored unserviceable', and 'Withdrawn for disposal', though not necessarily in that order.
So it would appear, the founders of said forum perhaps took one of those pool codes as their name perhaps.

Seems like a possible answer however WNXX is a website http://www.wnxx.com/

Doesn't look like it, they're being sent for disposal and storage thick and fast. Its probably safe to assume the TfW one a little while ago is probably all we get.
Nonetheless it might be worth keeping an eye on the branch line society website as something could pop up

Being "approved" for a forum is something that happens a lot and is a way for the moderating team to stop spam-bots from mass signing. As for the comment about threads being locked quickly, I've spent more time on that forum over the last few months and I've not seen anything that would suggest that the moderating team lock threads early, particularly when compared to other forums I use. In fact the only time I've seen threads locked are either when duplicates occur or when an on-going discussion reaches a certain amount of pages (ie on-going threads about specific T/FOCs) and is closed and discussion is restarted on a new thread as part 2. Not sure of their reasons for this as I've never asked but it's quite handy for trying to find stuff in old threads, especially if someone can tell you which part it's in. Saves trawling back through hundreds of pages of waffle to find what you need. I'm also a subscriber to their paid sections as well and it's a fantastic resource for loco information. Well worth the subscription price if you like to keep up to date with loco changes.

Anyway, back to the topic in hand as I said on there, it's a fantastic move by the Chasewater Railway to acquire one of these. It's pretty much on my doorstep but I've never been overly bothered about visiting there as I've always associated it with industrial steam locos but I'll definitely be visiting if a pacer is trundling up and down. I reckon pacers could be a bit of a money spinner for heritage railways, particularly in the early days of running them

The East Lancs Railway are pretty good at preserving stuff from their area.
Would be nice if they managed to bag a good 142,and maybe put it back into GMPTE livery!
I think Pacers look better in pairs though tbh.
Not sure if Pacers can be hauled by a loco.
Maybe the danger of having only one set is that nothing else can rescue it if it fails.
Would be interesting to find out for sure though.

Yes Pacers can be moved around by locos using the coupling adaptor.

Thanks for that.
Dont think I've ever seen a Pacer totally fail to warrant the rescue by a locomotive.
I suppose there would be no need really as another unit can come to its aid if need be.

Shocked to see,according to
Northern Spirits fleet list status how quickly these have been retired.
Looks like Cardiff could be the last haven for Pacer fans alike.

Or South Yorkshire, as that's where the 144s will be kept into the New Year, and beyond.

One of the 5 still in almost original condition along with 003, 013, 030 & 067. These weren’t touched by FNW as they were meant to be the ones coming off lease when the Oldham loop closed.

Not anymore as it had the flooring replaced along with the side panals as they were a blue colour and not Northerns purple colour.

It has been impressive how quick all these pacers have been withdrawn and not many being used for service. Sad to think that I won't see or ride one again though.

I meant the seating layout, no luggage racks fitted etc... Paint and flooring is window dressing that can be reversed.

^They are Manchester workings. Do you think they mean 142s rather than all Pacers, of which there are many 144s around Sheffield at the moment?

As a matter of interest, if you can drive a 142, can you drive a 144 without additional training?
