I am flying from Stansted on Tuesday, returning Thursday.

I booked Stansted Express's semi-flexible advance tickets which I have in eTicket format out from Liverpool Street on Tuesday, intending to use the return portion on Thursday.

Since booking it has occurred to me that it would make more sense to take the Victoria line from Tottenham Hale to reach my destination in London on Thursday evening.

Am I likely to have problems finishing short at Tottenham Hale with my ticket?

Probably not, but it wouldn't be a big problem if they did not allow you to exit, as you could just take the next train to Liverpool Street.

In theory they can charge you an excess fare, priced at the difference between the price paid and the lowest priced fare that allowed the journey actually made, but in practice there is close to zero chance of that happening.

Also, Tottenham Hale Underground and Railway stations are separated by gateline and the railway station is manned throughout the day.

For what it's worth, the T&Cs for Advance tickets on the Stansted Express website does state...
You can’t start, break or resume, or end your journey at any intermediate station

...which is as would be expected, given they are Advance tickets. I'm fairly sure the text on the website used to explicitly state that Advance tickets were only valid for travel to the named station at the London end - i.e. Liverpool St or Tottenham Hale - however that no longer appears, but it's implicit in the quoted text above.

Given that Tottenham Hale is actively promoted as a Tube interchange, and as such counts as "London" in many peoples' eyes, I'd be surprised if the barrier staff didn't let you through on such a ticket.
