The other 43 444s are refurbished. (96% complete)

Non-refurbished 450s:

Units 544-570 (27 units)

The other 100 450s are fully refurbished. (79% complete)

*currently being done to fully refurbished state

I assume once the 444s are done they'll able to do three 450s at a time? If that's the case completion by early December looks likely.

Yes, Eastleigh Works has capacity of 3 units at a time.

Yes, it was achieved prior to May 2019, but now too many units can't be taken out of service whilst providing extra services.

Thanks for the photo. Personally I think the stripes livery looks better on 444s, but this looks good as well.

The shape of the yellow and black on the front appear to follow as closely as possible the Class 701 livery.

SWR may be the first TOC ever to ruin a bland livery. They've made the bland more bland. It's awful.

What surprises me is that the owner of the copyright for the Stagecoach branding, isn't charging SWR for use of the design. From observations last month when on the south coast, I Didn't see one reclivered set. The same thing seems to be happening with EMR, with just the one aubergine coloured set. Though unlike SWR, EMR will be getting new/replacement stock.

It does seem to me both franchises are putting minimal value on their brands.

Better without the stripes though. The stripes were vinyl and it is tacky where you see the joins a bit like the old local lines livery

SWR have a different contract to most new franchises; they had to refurbish their train interiors first then move on to the exteriors.

SWR will be getting new 701s (replacing 455s 456s, 458s and 707s), so they are getting new trains as well, like EMR.

That would be odd as the brand design covers all things Stagecoach, buses and the then current EMT franchise. It could even be the copyright wasn't own by the company, but by the design house.

The name may have transferred but the logo, signage etc was/is very generic Stagecoach. I doubt that has transferred to DfT.

DFT had copyright on the SWT logo. I have no idea if Stagecoach livery is copyrighted.

Just for info Stagecoach are almost out of the railways and are about to launch a new bus brand which bears no resemblance to the current swirls and swoops.

I’d say probably yes, unless it’s just a trial so that SWR can prove why not to do it.
Otherwise it seems to be an alternative way of meeting the exact standard class seating capacity declared for the 444s in the franchise agreement.

there are regularly disagreements and snipes on twitter of ‘selfish cyclists’ placing their bikes in the only dedicated safe storage area because 1 bike takes out 4 tip up seats, you also have situations where passenger is seated and refuses to move, meaning cyclist then blocks isle and vestibule.

Does anyone know the scheduled rate of repaints? It was suggested on Facebook that it was one unit every five weeks, but that's obviously absurd because it would take over 16 years to repaint the fleet.
