TPE new trains livery

Looks like the new TPE stock currently stabled in the sidings at Crewe don’t have yellow frontages. I thought this was compulsory due to visibility requirements.

(Hope this isn’t rubbish - I was told the rather fetching sky blue trains are the TPE replacements for the old 185s, but happy to be corrected.)

As it has the latest specification lights, they do not need to have the yellow front end, same goes for 68s, 800/802s etc.
Also London overground 710s are also black front.

If it's the 397s they are mostly replacing 350/4s.

Yes, that's correct. They will be used on the current Manchester Airport-Glasgow/Edinburgh services and the new Liverpool-Glasgow services.

802s and Mk5s on the routes those two varieties operate on, with the freed-up 185s then being doubled up to operate the other routes.

thanks. I was wondering if there was a nova 1 and 2 as well. these new trains look amazing.

For clarity, GWR and LNER choose to have yellow fronts on the 800-series units (or it was specified in the government contract) but they aren't necessary for compliance.
GTR units for Moorgate services (717s?) also have no yellow ends and look like they forgot to go to the paint shops!

yeah the 717s look really odd without the yellow ends, they look a lot bulkier than the 700s. also in my opinion the 710s look sort of ugly, particularly in the new overground livery.

Woohoo I’m on my first one (Scarborough to Liverpool 0941).

Very attractive interior but we haven’t even left yet and already I note there are no coat hooks (apologies for being in 1st), and seemingly no way of adjusting the blast of whatever temperature air they are emitting from the vents beside the seats. Oh well, found a use for my coat then!

Okay so far, perhaps a little more springing would reduce the sensation of being on a bumpy stretch of track.

I am only 5’3’ so legroom not a problem, however I haven’t had anyone sitting opposite me yet!

I am sure this has already been noted in one of the several threads that @yorkie kindly provided above, but to my dismay they seem to now be doing “may be reserved” on a few seats.

I am currently sat in one as we approach Leeds, as it’s the only forward facing one on the non-sunny side. Bated breath at every stop now!

How is the ride and the legroom? People have been slating both from what I've read.

Based on a couple of trips, the ride varies depending on where you sit. Over the bogies isn't great, similar to 195s. The seats are IET seats which, whilst legroom is no issue to me, are often praised for good legroom aren't they?

I wouldn't worry, I have yet to see a ticket reservation for any of those seats, only what we call counted places and have never had to enforce it. A lot of my colleagues don't agree with it and some even remove the labels.

It’s not labels, it’s snazzy red, amber and green lights. The staff member I chatted to said they are getting negative feedback about them so they may be reviewed, although apparently it was part of the franchise renewal agreement.
