Bordesley is only served by one parliamentary train a week in one direction only. Currently this is the 13:18 train from Whitlocks End to Great Malvern which calls at Bordesley at 13:36 on Saturdays only. However this is augmented by a number of additional stops in both directions when Birmingham City FC are at home.

However, since August, the number of services calling at the station has almost doubled. Coventry City FC have left the Ricoh Arena following a rental dispute with Wasps rugby union club who now the ground. The Sky Blues now groundshare with Birmingham City at St Andrews and West Midlands Railway are stopping trains at Bordesley for Coventry City home matches notwithstanding their lower attendances.

I used the service to go to and from the Coventry match on September 7th and found it was reasonably well used. The station is of course unstaffed but there were a number of high-visibility jacketed staff on the single island platform. There are no information posters or displays and the only structure is a concrete shelter with no seats. Externally on Coventry Road there is little to suggest that the station even exists, just an unmarked stairway under the railway bridge. Indeed several fans were waiting at the adjacent bus stop after the game waiting for buses to the city centre, blissfully unaware of the train service above their heads.

Seems a bit pointless for any Coventry fans travelling to St Andrews by train, it’s only a bit more of a walk from Adderley Park and it replaces the faff of changing stations in Birmingham with a cross platform change at International

True - but I would imagine Coventry also have a fair few of fans in Warwick and Leamington. And there were also a fair few away supporters and neutrals like me using Bordesley. I came from the north west changing at Smethwick Galton Bridge, the lurid details of which are in another thread!

Unless Adderley Park gets additional services, then it's only hourly served by a Birmingham International starter so any Coventry fans from Coventry would still have to change at Birmingham International.

I think that SteveM70 meant that going to Adderley Park via "a cross-platform interchange at International" is easier than going to Bordesley by "changing stations in Birmingham" (presumably New St <> Moor St) .

Street View shows that on Coventry Road there was a sign and possibly some train information on a poster, in March of this year:

I'd agree that it's hardly prominent though.

Yes, exactly that. Sorry if it wasn’t clear

Some pictures from my visit to the station in August last year may be of use.

Not great, but I wouldn't paint it in as bad a picture as I understood from the OP.

Bus stop right outside the entrance - integrated public transport!

I don't remember seeing those posters or signs when I visited a couple of weeks ago but maybe I didn't look hard enough. Are they still there?

Branch Line News says annual footfall has gone up from 930 in 1997/98, when trains stopped six days a week, to 8,182 in 2017/18.
