How many times a week do 185s actually cover for the Scottish services since November 18?

Currently zero diagrams for 185 units on the WCML and there haven’t been any for quite a while.

If you think it’s ok that Transpennine run shorter trains than they used to, and are now releasing stock before introducing new trains, I can only assume you’ve never tried travelling on their services and don’t realise how busy they are.

If a 185 ends up in Glasgow on a Saturday night (but, generally, we presume, not on other nights) the implication is that there is still a diagram on either a Saturday or Sunday which uses a double 350 - otherwise, there would be no need to use a 185 on a regular basis, as described.

For details of how many 185s used to be used on the Scottish services, see post #47, above.

The Saturday/Sunday diagram has always been in as it releases a Class 350 for maintenance and maintains crew competence on Class 185's.

Yes but no longer. This is why the newest drivers in Glasgow are not being 185 trained. No need for it.

It doesn't matter what I think actually and I'm not defending the TOC either. I just saw no logic in your post as Manchester/Leeds isn't the same route operated by the trains that are going off lease. Which by the way, is overdue.

Do you know if TPE had the option to retain the 350?

Have you read post#58?

Maybe turn your ire on CAF for late delivery of new stock, rather than the contractual position that TPE are in with the 350s.

I know. Just not a good outcome for passengers, and not the desperately needed capacity increase.

No they haven't been refurbished. There are a few differences between /4s and /3s. An extra toilet and catering area in the /4 being the most obvious. 350/4s also have Speed set which the /3s don't have (or didn't have when new).
So they have 3 toilets?? Bit excessive
Surprised they have a catering area for a unit of that size

A couple of photos of the now-deliveried 350403 at Manchester Airport just now for anyone who's interested.

It's set up for longer distance travel as best it can be. Lots of passengers travelling 3 hours or so need the extra toilet and a trolley storage/catering unit gives the host somewhere to keep additional stock.

I have checked back to July 2015 and find that the standard formations at the time were as follows.

Fridays
Edinburgh: 3 DBL350, 1 SGL350
Glasgow: 2 SGL350, 2 SGL185

Saturdays
Edinburgh: 2 DBL350, 2 SGL350
Glasgow: 3 SGL350, 1 SGL185

Sundays
Edinburgh: 3 DBL350, 1 DBL185
Glasgow: 3 SGL350, 1 SGL185

Dropping the Wigan stop in favour of Northern would have no doubt culled a few numbers, but not enough to merit the close on 50% drop in capacity (on Edinburghs), I'm sure.

Incidentally, could anyone tell me why the Manchester to Edinburgh services are so much busier than those to Glasgow? This is something I've never understood, I mean, for instance, Virgin run far more trains to Glasgow than Edinburgh.

I think we should move all of this and amalgamate my thread of 6-car workings, maybe calling it "TPE Double Unit diagrams?" Then we can focus on old and new, diesel and electric stock alike.

One of the Friday doubles used to leave MAN Airport around 07:20 as it often ran in parallel with my Crewe to Manchester commuter train local north of Slade Lane Junction. However, there was many a Friday when it was only 4-car - I'd say 3 in 10 if not 2 in 5. Not quite every other week, but not far off. Obviously I was on annual leave some Fridays and some other Fridays my train or it was late so didn't see it and couldn't be bothered to look at TPE Journey Check!

So it's finally back in services after it is being repaired, but it won't be revinyled back into TransPennine Express livery because they'll be transferred to London Northwestern Railway after they are being replaced by 12 Class 397 Civitys.

Not been deliveried, it's been at wolverton for repair and TPE don't see the point in putting vinyls back if it's going in a few months.
Good lord and I thought I was pedantic. Okay, in that case, "here's the now back in service 350403 which has been for repairs and in the process has had it's old livery taken off and has yet to have a new one applied except of course when it comes to the replacement parts which won't have had anything applied yet and so there's was nothing to remove."

Personally, I thought 'deliveried' was a slightly more sensible way to phrase it. Next time I won't bother posting at all.

It doesn't need renumbering. But then why do the /2s start at 231 and the /3s at 368? On that basis the /4s should be 478-487!

350101-130, 350231-267 and 350368 - 377. I believe it is just something that done by LM for keeping the unit numbers all having the last 2 digits following on. Presumably the /4's didn't fall under it being a different operator
