All I can say is that the tarmac at the corner of Gibson Street and University Avenue was destroyed by E500s turning on full left lock with a fixed tag. I’ve never seen that before or since and it hasn’t recurred since the route changed to Gemini/E400s. It’s also been reported here that the E500s destroy the tyres on their tag axles on a regular basis. The B8/XLB might be different but I doubt it
Frequent tight turns at full lock on the 12m E500’s will likely cause there tires to wear out alittle quicker than a longer 13.4m B8L, given the 500’s shorter wheelbase creating a tight turn angle causing increased sideways tire scrub on the Tag.

They certainly would go through less tag tires with an active tag.

I feel sorry for the bus drivers today getting dogs abuse from passangers due to the actions of those protesting in Lothian road and North bridge. Not the drivers fault.

....funnily enough, I was just thinking, whilst stuck in traffic on East Fountainbridge, that the protest has probably added to the pollution this evening given the gridlock their protest has caused....

I get that people are worried about the amount of Co2 entering the atmosphere but UK had 379Mt in 2017 vs China who had 10,877Mt. Our buses, especially the new ones are brilliant for helping with the figures but why block both North Bridge and Lothian Road. Police standing by doing nothing. Why not do it at the Chinese consulate or even in China itself? :) Saudi Arabia is double what the UK is.. :)

But yeah, some drivers were being shouted at by angry pax just trying to get somewhere.

They should see this as a practice for when Tramageddon roadworks start again...

Definitely made my walk home less pleasant. Normally-empty roads being replaced by all the traffic from Lothian Road getting nowhere slowly.

Saw on Twitter that ECB will be running a 737 service from North Berwick to East Fortune? Anyone got anymore info? I know it’s for the air show

737. not the best number they could have picked.
Yea that's a bloody stupid decision, pretty disrespectful to those that lost their lives in the MAX crashes, something that is still very much the focus of many stakeholders atmo, most importantly the families. Could 787 not have done the job, yes it's highly unlikely that anyone will flag it up in the papers or whatnot. Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if someone has intentionally done that as a ridiculous prank, that would be going way way too far if true. Management at Lothian seriously need to get a life and go if that is the case

I would think that's highly unlikely. Far more likely is that they've used the number in the past, and the association didn't occur to them. It is after all one of the most common types of plane in the world and has been for years. There's a tiny subset of them grounded, and since 787s are currently under their own cloud it may not have been a better choice.

Without taking this off topic, the 787 has a fire suppression system problem in some 787s with failures. Add on the problems with battery fires that they had and it would not be a good choice either. 747 is used by an airport service already but 757 is free, 777 also (both of which land at EDI). They could have also used 220, 320, 330, 340, 350 and 380 (Airbus). Still, I honestly can't think that the bosses would have done 737 as a joke. No way. I think when the lay person thinks about any aircraft, the 737 is the first that comes to mind.

This might be the most snowflakey entitled bandwagon outrage post of all time on these forums. Not sure whether to laugh or cry at it.

I’ll call Yorkshire Tiger, yellow buses and the dozens of other companies that use 737 to remind them of their heinous errors. I’ll also ask them to ignore the thousands of 737 aircraft that fly safely every day just to ensure the correct level of outrage.

It's not "snowflakey" at all, such a boring insult to use now.

I would say it's an over exaggeration, but it's still a little insensitive picking the number 737 for an airshow shuttle.

I’m sure they ran it as no. 777 last year though, so it does seem bizarre they’ve changed it. (I don’t think it was a deliberate ploy to be offensive though)

In fact, here’s the story from their website.
https://eastcoastbuses.co.uk/take-our-777-to-scotlands-national-airshow/
Take our 777 to Scotland’s National Airshow

Scotland’s National Airshow on the 28 July is a fantastic day out for all the family and so easy to get to on our direct service 777.

This year you can see the sensational Red Arrows and their fantastic formation flying, the supersonic RAF Typhoon and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, featuring the Lancaster, Hurricane and iconic Spitfire.

On the ground you can meet the pilots, explore the aircraft in our hangars and get up close to our brand new Red Arrows Hawk T.1A.

Our special service 777 will run frequently between Edinburgh City Centre and East Fortune.

Leaving from St Andrew Square (north side) stopping at Waverley Steps, Waterloo Place, Abbeyhill, Meadowbank House, Willowbrae, Duddingston Park South, The Jewel and Haddington.

Our great value countyPLUS Day Ticket(Adult £7.50, Child £3.50, Family £18.00*) will get you from Edinburgh to East Fortune and back and you can also use it on any other East Coast Buses or Lothian day service that day – just buy from the driver of the first bus you board!

We’ll be giving away a family ticket to the Airshow PLUS your bus travel there and back. Follow our social feeds and look out for this great prize.

I wouldn't believe it was deliberate either, just a unfortunate accident/mistake. We'll leave the conspiracy theorists to respond though!

They didn’t change the service number it’s a different service running From North Berwick to the flight museum to connect with the 777 (I think)

I just looked into it there and I couldn’t find any information on this anywhere - Twitter, website etc. Where was it you found this?

What is the issue with the service number?
It’s further up this page.

Though seems strange to just announce it like that out of the blue with no prior news I wonder if it will run via the East Coast Tour route as they are not running it this year

I tend to agree with this sentiment. I don't like the epithet "snowflake" - it's all a bit lazy and now used to justify any old "PC gone mad" type response.

They've got a service to the airshow and are using the 737 as, alongside the 747, it's the single most well known aircraft in the world. That's shown by the use of it for airport services currently, as well as quite a few no longer operating (viz Teesside, Robin Hood, Heathrow).

It's perhaps a little unfortunate but that's all.

Absolutley nothing wrong with numbering a service to an Airshow as 737. You'd think it was only recently that 737s started crashing but there has been plenty of crashes involving 737s since they were introduced. Pretty sure some 777s have been lost in crashes as well, so should they stop using 777 for a route number as well? What about 747 or 767 or 757? Perhaps we should just ban the use of plane related numbers altogether.

As far as I know, there is 56 B8Ls in active service but there are some outstanding from ADL. Do you know when they will be delivered and in service?
