I happened to see Class 90 90009 the other day and it got me wondering how many other palindromic locos/units are currently in service?

Not a palindrome but if 66099 ended up on its roof it would still read the same....

(Yes, it's technically 201001, but don't think it ever wore full 6-digit set numbers. Certainly doesn't now.)

If you start going back in time when locos and units had short numbers, three or four figures, there must be a load. Class 40s must have had nine. Good job the title says ‘in service’.

25252 was always my favourite number, though not my favourite loco.
Saw it a few times.

That’s a good one.
I used to like 47474 ‘Sir Rowland Hill’. I don’t know who he was (I’ll look him up after I’ve written this), but there was something about that number that was satisfying.
Other frequent palindrome locomotives down my way were 33033 and 50005...
