I travelled from Christchurch to Winsford on December 30, using a standard off-peak return, not London, with a senior railcard. On December 31, I returned as far as Winchester. The London Midland conductor wrote "31/12" in fat felt tip on my ticket!
On January 18 I tried to use the ticket to complete the journey from Winchester to Christchurch. The barrier at Winchester didn't accept the ticket, and neither did the SWT man on the barrier. He claimed that a break of journey was only allowed if I completed the whole trip on the same day, and I was forced to buy a new single ticket.
I thought that break of journey was allowed on this ticket, and the journey could be completed any time during the validity of the ticket.
Am I right, or was the SWT barrier man right?
