372 and 446 are on lease until at least all the 769s are delivered and the 331 delivery programme is suitably progressed. The 323s currently at Northern are expected to stay (not officially confirmed but why would they be planning to refurb them for Northern, and why are more depots going to be trained on them next year???). Don't ask about the WMT 323s, don't know, but not currently expected to head north.

Basically it's a wait and see type thing, but you would of thought porterbrook would have let northern have all the 323s.

All 158s are still based at Neville Hill until the northern Connect brand goes live

Under old Northern i think allocations were kind of "fluid" anyway in practical terms: less so with types that were all allocated to one depot, but with the 150s (NH or NL) and the 142s and 156s (NH or HT) units seemed to often spend weeks at a time based at the "other" depot.

Has there been a sudden increase in the rate that these units are going in for "refurbishment".
There's been a significant increase in the number of short-formed trains on my route (Preston-Manc) in the last week or so.
I've noticed the same thing on the Harrogate line, where we're missing a chunk of the 170's, and getting short-formed trains for lots of services - maybe half of services.

I'd guess on it being down to leaf-fall and slippery rails, perhaps with more square wheels rather than extra refurbishments.

Same on the Selby-Manchester service. For the last few months it's been 158+158+153 (usually purple/blue), but in the last few days we've had a selection of 153s and today just a pair of 150s (which caused a few people to be left behind at Crossgates).

You are correct I’m not sure if it’s just whilst they’re there for driver training or whether they have moved for good

The rumour is 18 to be based at HT. All the 16 Perkins engined ones in the Northern fleet plus two Cummins powered examples. The two currently at HT for training purposes are Perkins variants. So a permanent transfer I would guess.

150123 is now back in service. Smelt as new on the Vic to Staly shuttle tonight. Even had carpeted walls!
I was on this unit yesterday on the Manchester Stalybridge shuttle, and I was quite impressed; it is the first refurbed 150 unit that I would say is in an "as new" condition.
.... I quite like the carpeted walls (though I don't know why).

Anyone know the reason why they’ve started doing them that way?
Have the complaints finally got through? Or have the DfT noticed the poor standards so far?

I don't know the answer, but the seats had the flat cloth covering, rather than a moquette covering, so they will likely get quite dirty before long.

I think 123 was a formerSilverlink unit and had blue carpet walls when refurbished by them and has retained it over time. They may have retained them rather than replacing the blue carpet with blue panels if still in good condition. Might be just a cost saving thing which looks good.

The wall carpet on the ex-Silverlink 150s is certainly not in a good condition now. I hope it has been replaced.

I think it is brand new carpet on the walls of 150123; the thing smells brand new (though I have not sniffed the carpet) , like it has just come out the factory.

Can't for the life of me work out why you'd have carpet on the walls but a vinyl floor!?

The carpet on the walls for sound attenuation and vinyl on the floor for ease of cleaning. Carpet on the floors tends to smell after a spell of wet weather due to it not having sufficient time to dry out.

Ah good. The old wall carpet smelt foul, you certainly didn't need to make an effort to notice it.

The reason for carpet on the walls is quite interesting. I quite like carpet on the walls, provided it is nice and clean - I think it gives a nice cosy look to the place. However, I remember travelling on a pacer from Warrington to Manchester when I was younger, around 2000, and it had red (turning some nasty shade of brown) wall carpet and was vile. So, provided Northern keep this stuff clean, it'll look great.

150270 returned from Kilmarnock yesterday after refurb and today 150272 has gone north for refit.
And it returned yesterday, 10th November
150272 on its way back from Kilmarnock after refurb
So is 5 months out of service the typical figure for each 150? Surely that's PRM, corrosion and the interior refit?

For some reason those which go to Kilmarnock take longer than those which go elsewhere. 150214 went away in August and returned in October

The 150 units getting sent to Kilmarnock are also being fitted with CET tanks unlike the rest of the 150's undergoing PRM mods at Doncaster. They will need them fitting at some point before January 2020.

Hmm 5 months each and around 140 odd units left to do looks a long time depending how many are away at once.
Is the 2020 deadline 1st Jan or 31Dec?
