Back in Jan'05, "Perrys Palace" Allerdale Building was also submerged, as was the green opposite up to the stream adjacent to tesco. i wonder if this is the same again...

I'm guessing CE will be on alert and primed to move buses if needed.Apparently its going to rain through the night putting down another 4 inches.
I aspect students who attend Dallam and QES who travel from Lancaster will have a day off tomoz.

Just heard from a fairly valid source, that half of Navvy's Footbridge over the Derwent in Workington, linking Northside with the Cloffocks has gone into the water...
The bridge was once a rail bridge converted in the 70's...

I can see this getting either dramatically worse over night or easing off as the water flows away. We shall have to see what the dawn brings.

Well I think CE will be seriously getting ready to move everything! If its bad now its going to be worse with another 4 inches. It may be that these new flood defences on the quay in Lancaster may prove a worthy investment although I doubt it, I think we will be OK.

Most of our services in central Cumbria are now being disrupted by heavy rain and flooded roads, and the situation is likely to worsen as rain is forecast to continue all day and overnight.
9am
Currently there is no service between Windermere and Keswick, nor on the A6 south of Shap, nor in the Ambleside, Borrowdale or Coniston areas.
We are keeping a close eye on river levels in Carlisle, and routes between West and North Cumbria are now starting to flood, so we expect further disruption later today.
11am
Keswick is now isolated, with no access for buses from any direction. Services X4/X5 are serving Keswick School as the nearest accesible point.
1pm
Services now disrupted in the Barrow and Furness areas. No services running to or from Millom.
3pm
As predicted, the flooding position in Cumbria is now causing serious disruption.
•Barrow in Furness has only one road connecting it to the rest of England, and this may well close later.
•Keswick is completely isolated.
•No services in Central Lakes area north of Windermere
•No services on the North Cumbria coast or south of Penrith.
•Hardly any services running in the Kendal area, service 555 diverted away from its normal route between Kendal and Lancaster.
•No service between Cockermouth and Maryport.
In the next few hours we expect Cockermouth to become isolated, and Carlisle likely to be affected overnight.

Things are looking a little grim! Several of my 6th Form (Keswick!) friends have been severely effected by the floodwater from the Greta, and will be spending the night in Keswick School. As far as Carlisle goes, I'm probably more concerned about the safety of the McVities Factory! Only time will tell

Off the thread topic, but relevant to the weather. Rail replacement coaches were called out to Preston this evening (I counted 12) to ferry passengers northwards after a freight hit a tree and there was a landslip at Penrith, the coaches couldnt leave Preston as the M6 was closed to high sided vehicles and the A6 was closed due to water on the pitch as already mentioned.

On a duller note, the expected problems in Chorley yesterday didnt materialise and we didnt even have any rain to speak of, and 18139 was back in service at Chorley..

I had 18364 on the 2a all the way to the Uni and for the first time ever I was the only one to get off at the underpass lol.
My Girlfriends dad who is a fireman has been called up to Cockermouth to help with the rescue effort (He's based at Morecambe) Their taking a bio hazard truck with them so people who have been caught in the mud and water can shower down once rescued.

I've just been to Workington, and my advice for those on the Maryport side of the derwent is DO NOT CROSS IT. Workington looks like a scene from the film Armageddon. the only way from Maryport to Workington is through the Broughton Moor Backroad onto A66, but the A66 is flooded either side, so i would advise caution as if the water level rises this road too will be closed. I only drove over the collapsed bridge at 1AM this morning and to saw it left a lump in my throat is an understatement!

one of the PO51 WLP/R Solos has made it to Maryport to run the town service. god knows how it'll get back to LL if the water level on the A66 rises and the bridges over the river all close! apparently more rain is coming.

Due to New Bridge (Northside)
30/31 Maryport-Thornhill
300/301 Carlisle-Whitehaven
48 Workington-Northside
Due to South Bridge

Don't know about the X-Routes, but one would think they would be severely affected.

All roads in Kendal Town centre are currently clear of flood waters, and all Town services are running normally.
47056 suffered an wheel lost this morning in Windermere Road.
The A591 Northbound, south of Kendal passable with care and under police supervision, out side the Travelodge. The police have said if the flood gets any deeper then they will close the road.

All the Buses were moved into the City Centre this morning at 01.00am and returned at 05.00 am for the run out. There was minor flooding at Staceys yard but they also removed most of there buses.
