Having scanned all 34 pages, I can’t see any reference to vehicle numbering. Does anyone know the number series for the individual carriages for both 745s and 755s? Thanks

The EVN of the 745s start with 94 70 0312 xxx-x so presumably it’s 312xxx for these.

By my calculations, the passenger carrying vehicles are just over 8'11'' wide.

As each vehicle is shorter than those currently operating on the network, does anyone know why the opportunity wasn't taken to make them wider?

Mk 1 derived vehicles were typically 9'3'' overall; on slam door stock, this was the widest overall and included handles/etc, but on the powered-door class 303s this was the external body width. Class 506s were also 9'3'' over body, and according to an old Ian Allan combined volume I have the class 306s were 9'6'' wide; I believe this is the overall body width as I seem to recall reading somewhere that the Shenfields were wider than the very similar sets built for Manchester - Glossop/Hadfield line (ie, the 506s).

I appreciate that the fact that the FLIRTs are articulated have an impact upon length/width/bogie spacing, but by a simple comparison with former stock cleared for operation on the lines over which they will operate it seems that they could be wider than the 8'11' to which they are being built; as we are told we are all getting bigger, is this a missed opportunity, or are there reasons as to why they can`t be any wider?

I deliberately used Imperial measures for this question as they are the dimensions to which Mk 1s were built.

The last time they tried to get a 755 here, got stopped at German border, seems they are trying again this week at some point, although now they have 2 755's ! :)

it's possible that the width is restricted a little by the lower floor in the centre of the carriages. It is noticeable that the power modules in the bi-modes are wider, higher up.

Does make you wonder doesn't it? Hard Brexit could throw another spanner in the works. Just imagine the import tax on that lot.

It's not inconceivable that the losses incurred by such issues would lead to premature cancellation of some franchises. Anglia is probably a bit too soon to be affected but it could certainly cause problems for Wales and the next SE / EM franchises.

Such a tasteful and effective livery - a variation of this white/grey/red theme should be adopted as a national generic branding for all English franchises in a similar way to the Saltire Scottish theme. Not only would this unify the system, but would avoid all of the constant rebranding when franchises change.

The Welsh already got that one I think :D

Various reasons for this but yes the first two units are now making their slow but steady way across Europe.

Bear in mind that the leading vehicles are 20m long. That therefore negates the shorter vehicle argument in some ways. There would be little to no point making the shorter intermediate vehicles wider as it would make the whole thing look ridiculous. The PP is wider partly because it has to be but also because you can afford to make it wider without ruining the lines of the rest of the train too much.

The 745's are different, 6 x 2-car articulated sets, do we know the body width / length of said vehicles?
I've seen 20 metres quoted elsewhere, but only in the context of a 12 car 745 being as long as 3 x 4 car Electrostars.

Surely they would just come by boat and avoid the taxes of the countries the trains would pass through if they came by land?

They travel from Switzerland into the EU which is one customs area.
After Brexit, goods passing through the EU to the UK should not be subject to EU import tariffs.
The only tariffs would be those that the UK chooses to levy on rail vehicles.

I'm not a fan of Brexit, by the way.

Funniest moment on the forum, thank you. Though Switzerland does have a navy. True fact that.

Me too "Trebor79", there's a growing number of us too.

As you were.

According To Marine Traffic https://www.marinetraffic.com British naval vessel 'HMS Diamond' is in port in Basel tonight

Could be an AIS fault - but that is what shows up

 As we speak Marines are supervising the dismantling of 755's on the quayside in Basle prior to containerisation of the components for shipment down the Rhine to Rotterdam, re-loading onto a larger vessel bound for Parkeston Quay for re-assembly in the UK.
That'll fool 'em :D

Agreed, it looks really good and would make the best national livery out of all the ones on offer
