Global warming is a big issue amongst non-railway-enthusiasts and there are big changes in society, like zero-emission cars and smart meters, so that future generations are be saved. One day, this got me thinking, whilst commuter lines are receiving new EMUs to replace the second-generation DMUs as part of their ambitious 'electrification scheme', could we see heritage railways disappear all because of saving the planet?
