GWR Class 800 - 800010 - "Paddington Bear"

Dear all,

This is my first post; I hope I do not breach any particular "forum etiquette". If I do, please forgive me.

I have two small boys who are, happily, becoming obsessed with trains. The object of their current fascination are the GWR Class 800s and, in particular, the one emblazoned with Paddington Bear.

So a few (no doubt stupid) questions from me please:

1. Is it possible for anyone to know / tell me where it is at any particular time?

2. If so, is it possible to know, in advance, whether it will be travelling through our closest stations (Kemble or Swindon) so we can go and see it?

3. If so, how far in advance is that information available?

4. I realise this is probably stretching the realms of possibility but is anyone able to say whether it will be going through either Kemble or Swindon this Saturday and, if so, what times?

Hi & welcome to the Forum.

It is possible to find out what its doing during the day however units are only allocated to the diagrams in the early hours of the morning so to find out if 800010 (Paddington Bear set) is in your area on Saturday it might be worth asking the question over on the TOPS request thread which you can find here:

You’re not the only one looking for 800010, it’s the only GWR 800/0 I haven’t been on yet! If you do manage to find out what diagrams it does please do tell me

It’s on Stoke Gifford.

Fewer departures than normal off Stoke Gifford due to Filton block.

If it comes out at all (and there’s no guarantee it will!) 0659 Swansea to Padd or 0730 Bristol TM to Padd will be the likeliest candidates as they’re the only 10 car diagrams off Stoke Gifford today. Everything else is booked as a 9.

That’s great, thank you. We will catch the 1353 Bristol PAD as it passes through Swindon.

It turns out we missed the 1353. And just as we were heading out the door to catch the 1633 at it passes Swindon, it would seem that it has been cancelled due to an issue with overhead wires at Paddington. B****r. Dad fail today.

We will try again during the week!

1930 Paddington to Weston-super-Mare (1955-1959)

Subject to alteration. Paired all day with 800013.
