There used to be sites where railway building debris/spent ballast was dumped.
I know of two. Conington South tip between Peterborough & Huntingdon on the ECML.
Godstone Landfill site on the Rehill Tonbridge line. Both are closed.
A friend has been watching Network Rail demolishing an asbestos ridden control hut at the carriage sidings north of Euston on the down side.(are the sidings being extended?)
He sent me a picture of the debris loaded into a 66 top & tailed freight train parked in the sidings this Sunday morning.
Where will it go? Do Network Rail still have active tips?
