Is it not that if the train terminates at Swindon it will be a DMU, and if it goes to London at will be a 125/800? Can't imagine any intercity services would terminate at Swindon.
I thought the 'received wisdom' on here was that RealTime Trains timing loads are not particularly useful for identification of what is actually diagrammed to work a service. Anyway, thanks for the information; with a DMU working vice HST I imagine these would be rather 'cosy'?You will be able to tell from RTT if it is a unit or an HST/IET. The timing loads of a DMU wil show 15x etc and the HST/IET are timed as HST. Note, of course, that you not get the actual class diagrammed but will give you an indication whether DMU or otherwise.
In normal practice that indeed would be the case. However if a service that normally runs through to London is cut back in the event of engineering work you may get a HST terminating at an odd location (for example, on the date in question the Swansea-London services are cut back to Swansea-Newport and I presume will still be 125/800s despite the fact they won't be going through to London). Is it not that if the train terminates at Swindon it will be a DMU, and if it goes to London at will be a 125/800? I wonder if we'll see a farewell tour jsut before the last sets leave. The latest delivery schedule from Hitachi means the “tail” of the HST rundown will now be slightly elongated past late March. Exact details are being worked out now. They will all be gone by the summer timetable with the last few sets running West of England diagrams.

In the case of my trip, one working that caught my attention was 2Z63 1346 Cheltenham Spa to Swindon. On a normal Sunday (according to GWR's PDF timetable B7) this is a through service to Paddington and RTT has it down as booked into platform 1 at Swindon on the 14th (although the following 15:46 off Cheltenham is booked into platform 2 at Swindon on the 14th so will definately be a short DMU despite this train also normally being a through one to PAD). RTT also states that both workings offer first class accomodation, which seems to counteract the fact they are timed for 75mph DMUs. Have any of the 166/165 units that have moved west retained first class accomodation?

Ok, thanks for the information. Looks like its all probably going to be Turbos then so no point me aiming for 2Z63 in particular.I know that people often confuse Timing Loads and diagrams on RTT but something with as big difference as a unit and IET/HST would certainly show as these would have to be entered specially in this case as STP services. Still doesn't say what actual class though. Almost everything on this route (DMU) now is Turbo worked but 15x timings still used.
In the case of 2Z63, Platform 2 is being used at the same time by a Westbury to Swindon service turning back.

Less than 100 SX GWR trains are now being operated (LTP) by HST sets and this will be down to around 50 SX by Xmas. Initial thoughts are that this will be with only 13 diagrams but this has to be confirmed.
Any hst diagrams for devon /cornwall going over in Nov ember please?
Yes, 802101 has been delivered earlier than the rest so that the necessary type approvals could take place. It’s was always envisaged to use it as a spare set until the rest arrived.
I have a question, and this topic seems as good a place to ask as any...
Are any of the services between Swindon and Cheltenham/Gloucester on Sunday 14th of October booked for a HST? I will be heading to London from Gloucester and need to be in Paddington by about 6pm. Unfortunately the normal Sunday service of five through trains from Cheltenham to Paddington appears to be cut to zero on that date, with a change of train at Swindon required. I would be happy to sample a 9-car 80x if no IC125s are diagrammed, but if possible I would like to get a long train rather than a 2-car DMU (if it is only 2-car DMUs, maybe I should board at Cheltenham instead of Gloucester to be confident of getting seats). Maybe I should also check on the 80x diagrams topic to ensure none of the Bristol-PAD services are booked for a lone 5-car 80x on that day...
Are there no more HST diagrams to Bristol?@Rhydgaled
Have looked at the STP diagrams for that Sunday, there are no HSTs diagrammed at all.
There is one service I can see that is booked for an 800(9) - 1G72 18.30 London Paddington - Cheltenham.
No need to check the 80x topics, despite what information some folk like to pedal on this forum there are no Paddington - Bristol TM - Paddington services booked for a lone 5 car! Pad - Bristol services are all booked for either 800(9) or 2x 800(5)*
*Dependant as ever on unit availability!![]()
Hi folks i'm planning to do a HST spin on Saturday 13th October I know its harder to work out whats working what with vices and cancellations but will the 0623 WSM-PAD be still HST. And should the 0903 from PAD still be hauled.
Cheers folks.

The weekday 1030 & 1430 PAD - WSM are HSTs AFAIK
should the 0852 to OXF still be hauled?0623 is a HST, the 0903 is likely to be an 802.
Thank you for looking. Since there are no long trains (and the earlier comment from somebody about GWR being short of crews on Sundays) I'm now leaning heavily towards going into Euston on Virgin instead of into Paddington on GWR.@Rhydgaled

ECS looks like it comes from North Pole so probably not.should the 0852 to OXF still be hauled?
Is the 08:26 cardiff paddington likely to be a HST tomorrow?
