Morning,

I've got some time next week to go find my last LM 153s and my last 150, as far as I can figure out they work the following diagrams, am I missing any obvious?

With 170s on the Rugeley diagram
Bedford - Bletchley (One 150 as well?)
There's a 150 that heads to Hereford? (Can't figure out the diagram)
153 on Cov - Leamington shuttle
153 on Cov - Nuneaton shuttle

Many thanks in advance

You can also get a 170+153 working together on the Snow Hill Lines, I'm not sure how often it happens but I've seen it a few times now.

On some recent saturdays, I have seen 2 x 153 on the Nuneaton / Coventry shuttle (and 3 coupled together on 1 September). Pity that the Coventry - Leamington Spa service seems to depart just as the train from Nuneaton is arriving at Coventry.....

Thanks I didn’t know that happens weekends. Always single class 153s weekdays.

If you want to work out which Marston Vale diagram is which, on the LNR timetables on their website the 153 is shown as "limited cycle accommodation" or somesuch, the 150 is the other one.

I think difficulty in pathing is the issue here

The first Bletchley 》 Bedford is a 150. The second is a 153. Just follow the workings from there. They don't change

The 3 x 153 on the Coventry to Nuneaton were for the Godiva weekend.
It is normal to see 2 x 153 on weekends and a single 153 during the week. No spare unit to make it 2 units during the week.

That’s the first time a 3 coach train* has worked the line, at least since CT days and the through services to Nottingham. With 2 car 172’s due to arrive in the next year or so, it’s probably the last time a 3 coach train will work that route too, at least for the next few years.

*ignoring the 6 x Mk2 rugby specials in 2016 as they didn’t stop at all stations.

The 1252 170+153 Worcester SH diagram starts as 5V44 1136 ECS from Tyseley Depot which is booked to reverse in platform 7A at New Street from 1153 to 1159 and run via Lifford Junction to Worcester.

There is also a 150 which arrives in New Street from Hereford at 0907 (0732 Hereford - New Street) which runs ECS to Tyseley. It may return for the 1050 New Street to Hereford but should remain at Tyseley until the following day.

Monday’s only it doesn’t return. Most Monday’s its been a class 170s since London midland time. They do the same now as well.

So going off on a slight tangent, London Midland have 5 153’s in use during the week....leaving 3 spare?

1 Nuneaton
1 Leamington
1 Bletchley
1 Worcester
1 Rugeley

Even easier.

The LNR timetables for that line show not only the number of carriages, but the booked platform at Bletchley!!!

is it not? Mind playing tricks on me.

No, only Saturday and Sunday.

Much to the annoyance of the commuters who think LM can magic up a 153 from nowhere, or complain that because there are 2 at the weekend, ‘why can’t ‘they’ put 2 on in the week’

Definitely never seen more than 1 x 153 in the week, only Saturday & Sunday.

I think there is more than 1 on the Rugeley trains but I've not seen them lately.

Looking at a random day (this Friday) there are 7/8 153 diagrams.

1 - Coventry - Leamington Spa
2 - Rugeley services in the morning, Snow Hill in the afternoon
3 - Coventry - Nuneaton
4 - Hereford - New St in the morning, Rugeleys in the afternoon
5 - Hereford - New St in the morning, Rugeleys in the afternoon, back to Hereford in the evening
6 - Great Malvern in the morning, Hereford in the afternoon,
7 - Marston Vale line
8 - spare

From what I can gather from RTT (the most reliable of sources, I know) The unit that works Cov-Nuneaton on "day 1" will stable overnight at New Street plat 8A, going on to work Cov-Leamington Spa on "day 2" before running back to New Street and I think coupling to a set off Walsall to head back to Tyseley. Not confirmed though, I don't have access to the official diagrams.

Edit: I've done more digging. That Cov-Nuneaton unit starts its day at Coventry Yard, having worked in from New Street the night before (there's a path timed for 75mph sprinter arriving just past 10, I assume it to be this). It looks like it splits from the 21:37 arrival from Rugeley (2A77, 20:42 off Rugeley. Can anyone confirm if this is a 153+170 diagram?) This 170 set would then run to Walsall before continuing empty to Tyseley via New Street where it spends 20 minutes in the same platform as that 153 off the Leamington shuttles.

So, provisionally we can follow that one unit throughout three days workings, from Rugeley services in the afternoon - Cov-Nun shuttles the next day - Cov-Leam shuttles the day after. Helpful? Hopefully.

Helpful. Yes. Confusing. Yes.

It'd be no fun if it was easy though eh?!

Currently on my way up to Leamington Spa with 68011 to get both shuttles then head up to Rugeley to try and find the other 2.

Staying overnight tonight with the aim of finding 150107. (105 was at Tyseley earlier, hopefully it's done on the Bedfords. ) Any 153 that hides today I'm also planning on hunting tomorrow.

Much appreciated responses.

As an update 153356 is on the Leamington. 153371 on the Nuneaton. Let's see where they turn up tomorrow.

If you want to find a unit it’s lot faster asking on Twitter. I plan my day out asking them. Then spending whole day at a station it might not come.

A fair question to the uninitiated.

We have had 2 x 150 on the vale earlier this week but the smelly box box was back this morning. Sigh. One of the 150's failed last night. double sigh.
