0806 Cardiff to Paddington on 16th, is this likely to be IET?

Starts at Old Oak and stables at Cardiff overnight so it looks likely that it is a HST.

You've got them already!
They are very good trains apart from the seats, and if you're in coach A then you don't get much engine noise

According to JourneyCheck, 1C20 1530 London Paddington - Weston-super-Mare remains a booked HST. Today it is 5 coaches vice 8. 1C31 2045 London Paddington - Bristol Temple Meads is also 5 vice 8 so another booked HST.

There does seem to be some 'flip-flopping' with certain diagrams, and ones like 1530 PAD - WSM and the 1742 PAD - CNM seem to be one of them!

It could be to provide a HST for 2003 PAD - PLY which is HST vice IET at present.

As its formed with 8 vehicles, this would indicate that it is an HST. There has been a problem by IET systems picking up that the fuel at Laira is contaminated so until this is sorted 1C96 will have be formed with an HST.

No that had been the plan but due to 43159 having 2 traction motors isolated resulting in 43170 not having enough fuel left to work back to London so the 18.03 was set swapped and used instead for a35.

Today was the last run, at least of this year of an HST to Newquay. Who knows what will work here next year.

Due to set changes and disruption earlier in the day the train was late, the buffet was closed in Cornwall and no window labels applied.
A few enthusiasts rode on the train and the crew were a good laugh.

I saw the set at Newquay myself. Makes me think if this was the last year of HSTs to Newquay, how will they cope with Boardmasters next year if they don't intend to send IETs down?

Something for the 'Except' list too, 1C77 1033 London Paddington - Paignton and return 1A90 1454 Paignton - London Paddington is booked an IET as of Monday 3 September every weekday.

Just confirming: From my normal commute (Plymouth/Devonport to St Germans) I've noticed the 16:00 from Plymouth to Paddington (comes from Penzance but cba to check what time) has been a 10 car class 802 every time since Thursday last week. Is this going to become regular or is it running as a one-off.

Also as a side note, on Monday I ended up on Northern (?!??) 150207 on the 15:57 from Plymouth tied to 153325. Not a nice substitution for the usual 150/0, and also I thought GWR were giving Northern their 150s as part of the cascade. Explanation please.

Even with the demise of HSTs on the through Paddington-Newquays, it won’t be the last time an HST runs to Newquay. Class 158s aren’t gauge cleared on the branch and next year there aren’t enough 150s to go around, so a 2+4 might make an occasional weekend appearance

Unit swap from Northern with them taking the two single cars the other way to form up into 3 car units. GWR don’t lose all 150s, but this isn’t the thread to discuss the details.

On weekdays all Hereford - Paddington and vice-versa are HST except

1P12 0528 Hereford - Paddington (9-car)

1W02 1722 Paddington - Hereford has flip-flopped and this week has flopped to HST but that may well be due to the return 1P51 2151 Hereford - Paddington terminating at Worcester due to engineering work.
