Is 2O70 (08.41 Temple Meads to Weymouth) actually booked for anything? Seems to be whatever GWR can find lying around atm - 166, 150 or 158! (though I guess better than the 3x153 it was for a little bit!).

It is at Gloucester overnight and I think it is currently a 158/9 but, as you say, anything can turn up on it.

2M02 0519 Gloucester - Southampton Central via Swindon
2M97 0823 Southampton Central - Great Malvern
2O90 1251 Great Malvern - Weymouth
2V93 1730 Weymouth - Bristol Temple Meads

Quoted from another source the unit starting 5M02 is not a Turbo and has been working 2C93 2154 Bristol TM to Exeter and, the unit starting 2K00 works 2C98 2306 Bristol TM and not 2041 Bristol TM to Worcester SHrub Hill which has been formed off 2M60 1917 Taunton to Cardiff and not a Turbo.

It’s currently a 166 diagram on Saturdays - but caveat that Saturday and Sunday diagrams are rarely settled due to engineering works.

Ere - does anyone know when the first Turbo is due to run in passenger service down to Portsmouth?

On Twitter GWR have said to passengers Summer 2018 I think.

Yet we're in September and still, people are putting up with good but packed Class 150 and 158 trains.

To be honest (going slightly off topic) there's a "backlog" of things that GWR need to sort out to gain passenger satisfaction - 4 or 5 of which I emailed Mark Hopwood about (but have tried politely stress the point) around what 4 days ago!

To be fair a lot more services are running through to Portsmouth with 4/5 coaches all in service. I understand though that 5 is the maximum due to lack of SDO on the sprinters.

Still one-way, railfan26!

@chrisncal54 have no longer been requesting units since being spoken to and swtrainspottin asked to let him know of any diagrams missing so needed to clarify them with others before asking him to post. Appreciate your views will always remain the same though and that's understandable

Also @SWTrainspottin looks as though units are often swapped out at Westbury on the diagram between
5F99 1946 Westbury - Westbury Dmu Sidings 1954 and
5C92 2027 Westbury Dmu Sidings - Westbury 2035

166206 worked 1F05 0730 Cardiff - Fareham and 166212 working 1F09 0930 Cardiff - Fareham.

And to hell with those living in Portsmouth?

If Fratton has been cleared why are they not terminating there? Is it not possible to clear only part of a route code?

The end of the comfortable 158s on the moderately long distance Cardiff - Portsmouth services is in sight, soon the joys of no seat reservations and outer suburban 3+2 seating with no seat-back tables (or many other tables) to put your cups of coffee will be with us :(

Although looking at Journey Check, looks like the 09:30 is running through to Portsmouth now

Is it because there’s nowhere to put them for (maybe) 45 mins? If cleared for Portsmouth & Southsea low level, is there a free platform? Or for Fratton depot do the necessary shunts fit into the existing moves?

The unit could quite happily sit in platform 2 or 3 at Fratton but would reduce flexibility for the signaller. The low level would be out the question as at the end of each hour all space is used. You could possibly just about have time to shunt it into the depot but there’s lots of units being detached and ECS to the depot after the morning peak.

At a real push you could turn the littlehampton in platform 2, and put the Turbo on top of the Southampton, I don’t think there’s anything that follows the littlehampton into Portsmouth.

Operationally Fareham I suppose does make more sense (even if it means southern actually have to run through to Southampton), but from a passenger point of view unless you’re at the station 20+ minutes early you’re going to miss your train.

Could have been an academic question anyway, as per RTT the incoming train was already 31 down at Fareham, which is when they start thinking about turning back early normally. Lost time gradually throughout the journey - reason given “replaced by a slower train”...

It's a very academic question as, pending the work at Harbour, NR have stuck an OPPOS restriction on from as far back as Portcreek Jct so even getting into Fratton in passenger service is out at the moment.

Bit of an unusual reason as Turbo’s have got the same maximum speed of 158’s?

Will that effectively be to avoid any difficulties about where to hide them between departure and arrival, if they were expected to be still on time on Fratton?

No, just a very risk averse decision by NR to effectively stop them going down that entire stretch of line. They wouldn't have been thinking about the train service at all.

Turbos will have seat reservations. Hence the coach lettering.

It's excellent that u have turned things around and are now providing unit information to those who ask, rather than it being just you endlessly asking! Brilliant - as this site, ultimately, works on a reciprocal, sharing basis.
