Travelled on WSMR yesterday Shrewsbury-London-Shrewsbury... the 08:07 from Shrewsbury was packed (people without reservations standing between Telford and Tame Bridge!) and the evening train back from Marylebone was about 2/3rds full. So it is a popular service! :)

Any chance of having longer trains? There does, for starters, seem to be a need for more seats on the Saturday 08:07 service!

It is impracticable to add one coach to one service due to stock diagrams, it is all trains or none. It is quite a logistical nightmare to add one coach for one train at short notice. If all the trains had extra coaches the benefit would not be practicable as the track access charges would be higher so therefore the business case for the extra coach would not be profitable. If the trains are contantly full and people are not getting a seat I would imagine 4 coaches would then become the norm.

Delivery of the first set of refurbished Mark 3 coaches for WSMR now said to be due early September. A set has been inspected by staff who report a quality job at Stoke on Trent.

67010 now in W&S livery is said to be due to be named Charles Darwin but is proving temperamental and won't be named until it is sorted.

Yay! I've waited to see these for nearly a year. Good news about another loco too!

Just recieved this, I dont have the picture yet, but stock seen this morning.

There it is, probably the first picture of the new liveried stock in Wales at 0743.

Good job for ISO1600! (via a NR Engineer sent to George Jones SCRUA newsletter editor)

New stock is booked to run today - due WX Gen 1258 on second circuit from Crewe - and presumably all week. (via George Jones)

Will put up pics when I get them

I like the pic with the Arriva employee having a peak through the window. Perhaps he's thinking that this is what the WAG express should look like. Reliable 67 traction and shiny mk. 3 carriages.

In fact, perhaps WSMR should just run the WAG Express? :D

Yes, they only have one set at the moment. W/S were in the running to run the WAG express at one stage I think. Be good to see some images of the insides. From what I know I think its all in quite a cool neutral blacks/greys scheme.

Correct W/S were in the running, but Politics/bed partners/cronies etc ruled open access out.

I hope the new stock will reverse the prophets of doom thinking<(, or would I travel to London on this train or a 158 dmu, answers please in a sealed envelope.:D

Surely it's a bit narrow minded to just write it off to that; there could be a number of reasons as to why WSMR were not chosen, for example, they were charging more, or couldn't deliver a certain level of availability?

Sour Grapes on behalf of Andy Pandy?

Personally, I dont like it, it looks like it hasnt really been painted. IMO it looks like what a coach would look like the livery applied.

Would say its a pretty amazing livery but 2nd best on the network...still cant beat the DynamicLines/Local Lines livery :D

Just goes to show simplicity is best...and that you dont need several colours just to look good...

Still its good to see Wrexham finnaly get there 1st set in traffic...after how many years late ???

And love that picture of the ATW staff looking through the window...Caption ideas here?Plus those buffers really must be fully compressed to be that close!

I think that's quite an unfair comment to be honest... Yes our 57 reliability was brilliant at introduction but it's much improved now - in fact I'd say it's more reliable than the rest of our fleet - and most of the delays are attributed to following other late running services.

I'm not really a fan of the repaint if I'm honest - it's not particularly striking is it?

It looks like someone took an HB pencil and coloured it in that way. Still, it looks far, far better than the BR Blue livery.

I must say I disagree, the Cargo-D set looks a lot better

I like the blue-grey but it looks dated these days and of course better for w/s to have something in their own colours. I like the way the paint wraps around the roof.

MMMMMMM you got me mixed there...Whilst i like the new Wrexham livery becasue its smart and modern i do like the BR Blue Grey livery on the Mk3's, and it looks nice on a dull day...unfortunatly i wrexham won't...

Wierdly im reminded of La Roux's Colourless Colour...

Early ninties decor
it was a day for
We Wanted to play
but we had nothing left to play for
Colourless Colour
Once in Fashion
And soon to be seen

Dont know why...guess its the Early ninties decor = BR Blue Grey,
Colourless Colour
Once in Fashion
And soon to be seen = Wrexham Silver...

:)
