I guess it takes the conversations back to the original topic.
I did want to mention my own observation at the seemingly higher-than-average number of homosexual users on this forum, but I seem to recall that a similar observation made by another user a while ago caused quite a ruckous on the board - Hence why I refrained from mentioning it. :)

As can be evidenced by my own recent posts, I'm another WCML user (Well, I'm bi in theory, but currently have a male partner! :)) although - Much to my own personal preference - It doesn't show openly at all. Although I've come to accept what I am and be comfortable with what I am, to be honest I detest the notion/stereotype that homosexual people have to be visibly and openly gay. <(

As many of ye can see from my avatar, I'm also a man who enjoys the more extreme side of life, and feels no need to have any extent of his sexual orientation visible to others - Indeed, I prefer my sexual orientation to simply be one of the many "invisible" variables of my existance, and - Unlike most of über flambouyant gay people (The ones who are responsible for the "gay" stereotype in the first place) - I don't feel any need to openly declare my sexual orientation anywhere, although I will bring it up in conversations like this where it's contextually relevant to the topic being discussed. 8)

An interesting idiom of my own existance however is that - Despite my orientation being what it is - I still find little or no discomfort from being in strongly homophobic environments, such as a lot of right-wing pubs. I'd imagine that this could be linked to the fact that homophobic sentiment does have a strong rooting in a lot of Metal (My favoured Black and Death Metal, especially) though, and maybe I've just grown used to, accustomed to, and possibly even comfortable with it! <D

Going back to the higher than average percentage of LGBT users of this forum though, I have to confess - And I do apologise in advance - That I couldn't resist registering www.*******.com/RailUGay for the board earlier today!
Indeed, I was even going to register www.railugay.co.uk and point it towards this forum just for a light-hearted practical joke, but I've already spent enough on domain name registration this month as it is! If I decide to go ahead with my idea of becoming a Nominet authorised domain registrar, though?... ;)

I'm definately not called 90019
Maybe not in thy birth name...But I have seen somebody accessing this forum from I.P address 9.0.0.19 - Could there be a coincidence?
(Or at least an ISP that does everything possible to accommodate rail enthusiast customers! )

As I said to someone on MSN a couple of days ago, it's unfortunate that it is almost always the ones who show the worst of the interest that get the publicity and create the stereotype, rather than those who keep it to themselves.
Somewhat annoyingly, this goes for almost everything I'm interested in. Mind you, it has some interesting effects when people just believe the stereotype and don't actually find out about things themselves (According to a couple of christian people, I'm going to hell like 7 or 8 times over ).

I have to say I'm really surprised your gay lol...
I must admit that I found thy declaration of the same to be a little unexpected...Although at the same time, I have a (Possibly inaccurate) pre-conception that homosexuality amongst the Asian community is rare.
Having said that though, isn't that because a lot of Middle-Eastern religions place a very strong (And unfounded) emphesis on homosexuality being a "bad" thing? :?

I'm more or less in full agreement with that statement. Although I don't have any problems in principle with people having "camp" and "gay" personalities if they are naturally that way inclined, I do object to the very blinkered impression of the whole gay community that the "stereotypical lot" have given the media. Furthermore, I strongly object to being "filed" under the same "fäggy gay" category just because I happen to have the same sexual orientation! <(

Although such people and myself may have the same sexual orientation, that's where the resemblance ends. I have a couple of friends who are of a strongly flambouyant bent, and the differences between their personalities and my own are so vast that the idea of us being regarded as the same kind of person is - To be frank - Completely absurd!

After all...It's worth remembering that in todays society, there are a lot of heterosexual men who are also naturally "camp" for a variety of reasons...And thanks to the common gay stereotype that's been around since the 80's, a lot of those poor blokes - Despite having no emotional interest in the same sex whatsoever - Often find themselves to be given more attention by other men, insted of the women that they're actually interested in! :?

Conversely: Because of my own somewhat Norse nature and the fact that I allow myself to be defined my Spirit and my personal interests, I often find that I am regarded with contempt by a lot of the "mainstream" gay community...Mainly because I prefer to wear my hair long, keep a fairly impressive 7" beard going, and have a dress preference that is significantly darker and far more extreme then that of a lot of stereotypical gay folk! <D

My other half is the same as myself in those regards, and - Despite the strength of that which exists between us - It would take a prolonged scan with even the most acute of gaydar (Which, funnily enough, is something that I do not have) to mark us out as anything more involved than just friends! <D

...a "bad" thing would be an understatement, by rites some muslims would want me stoned to death lol - not to mention the cultural baggage of being asian. unfortunately there is a lot of hostility to homosexuality from cultural and religious point of view, even those "who don't mind gay people" aren't exactly welcoming when person of their community comes out as gay. that said not all asian or muslim are like that and in some countries like turkey and lebanon it is quietly tolerated, long as its not publicly flaunted.

there are probs more gay asian people than you think, its just not very common to see/hear from them, cos they're probs not exactly wanting attention for a variety of reasons including wanting to avoid family finding out etc. I'm generally open about it, although family don't know. I'm the same also most people wouldn't realise I'm gay, and unless it comes up in a relevant conversation I don't really mention it - its just a part of who I am, it not the be-all end-all of of who I am...

Um... why?
I guess I'm of a passed generation where people kept their preferences and ideology relating to this subject to themselves.
I'm a straight guy but I would never want to create a thread called "Straight Rail Enthusiasts?" and discuss the good and bad with that scene. I am certainly not homophobic and some people I know are Gay and I have just as much respect for them as of the staight people I know.
Like I said, am older generation and maybe not keeping up wuth the times I guess.

Please please.....could this thread close???
Um... why?
^^why is that then?
Any particular reason for wanting that? :?
Aye...I'd be curious to know the reasoning behind TrainBrain185's request as well, as the topic of conversation - Though admittedly a bit "gay" (I'll get me coat!:lol:) - Wasn't in any way one-sided or otherwise inappropriate, IMO...

TrainBrain185: Please clarify and explain above request and resons for making it.

Gaydar, eh? While not being of this bent myself, I can tell you that in my university days, I had at least ten friends whom I had no idea were homosexual (or bisexual, etc). A third party would mention it in passing some months down the line, to my complete surprise. :|

I guess I'm lucky enough to be oblivious to peoples' sexual tendencies, and concentrate on their personalities instead.

I see no reason for having to lock his thread, it will be treated in the same way as any other thread, we do not want to get into the habit of locking threads just because one person doesn't like the subject being discussed but still insists on reading it! If people don't want to read about 'this sort of thing', the subject line should be enough for them to know to keep away from it.

Ive always thought trainspotting etc (and some other activities) are a kind of sex-substitute and naturally attract those who might find it difficult to form a "normal " relationship. Thus it is no surprise that the hobby has a high number of Gays just as it has a high number of socially or mentally challenged people. I dont have a problem with that, whatever consenting adults want to do without impinging on others lives is OK with me.

Great thread though, and fair-play to those of you who have crossed the threshold to the point where you feel secure in what you are.

Not Gay myself as far as I know...having 5 kids sometime makes me wish I had been:D

I'm all in favour of a thread like this - no reason to close it - it's a polite discussion/ debate with plenty interesting information and some good points raised. Wish every thread was like this

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

You straight people have it made. You are the 'given norm' and can do things like making out in public, hugging, to say the least, without even a given glance. Gay people, as soon as they slip on a pride wristband, or put their hand in their partner's back pocket, get slandered and abused.

We have our individualities in this earth for that reason. When gays/bisexuals etc can do exactly the same things as straight people can and not be ridiculed for it, then we'll shut up. Until then, its just not happening.

You sound like a precise example of a person who vehemently maintains they are not homophobic, and then goes 'but so long as gays don't hit on me'. You *are* being homophobic (or rather, heterosexist) by requesting this thread be closed. I think, given especially, the amount of gay folk here, that it is perfectly alright for this thread, just a wee tiny bit of space in the forum, to remain, for us with the common similarity to have a chat and get to know each other.

Again: Until gays/bis/whatever are treated exactly equally as straights, threads like this and situations like this in real life will continue to exist.

Oh dear...Pipped to the time-stamp once again?

Somebody really needs to do something about the dodgy old "clock" that comes with the Windows operating system...;)

If you think THATS bad, I actually hide the System Tray clock and use the Windows 3.1 CLOCK.EXE, which constantly deviates slightly behind and in front of the actual time!!

In response to JustinStacey's first section about how straight people have it easy I present the following.........

You don't have to deal with women who I can say with ease are the easiest way to completely kill a mans pride and dignity.
