I predict they will out accelerate an 802. Hopefully in a few months I will find out whether this is true.

I wonder if the timetable will be speeded up following the introduction of these fast-accelerating sets with their power operated doors. Given GWR's casual approach to station working west of Plymouth I'm not holding my breath.

They are timetabled to 150/3/8 timings, rather than HST timings which are slower.

Going to Newquay won't be a problem and HSTs can get to Falmouth as well - but in the normal course of things, their work will be on the main line.

They won’t run to Falmouth in normal service. There’s a lower speed limit for HSTs, and max 3 carriage for the stations. At Falmouth town max 2 carriages. Falmouth docks can take 3 of which on a HST the first will be a power car.

I thought as much. I've just done some "back of a fag packet" calculations using figures from wikepedia. Averaging the weight of a 150/153/158 as well as the installed HP of the same gives an average six car train a total weight of 231 tons and an HP of 1,900 giving a power-to-weight ratio of just over 8 HP per ton.
The six vehicles of a four coach HST weigh 246 ton and have an HP of 4,500 hp giving a power-to-weight ration of just over 18 HP per ton.
Well over twice the power yet running to the same times. What a wasted opportunity to improve journey times.

I had my first trip on it last week, and the acceleration was noticeable quick. It also found itself waiting time at stations.

I don’t think they’ll improve journey times until a larger fleet is available as it needs a 150 or 153 to cover it in unavailability at the moment

I should have made my post clearer in that I was asking/suggesting of a situation when all of the HSTGTi sets are in service. Sorry.

There seems to be a few poster's in this thread who might have direct knowledge. What is the RAL paint code for GWR door colour? I was lead to believe it is RAL 9006 Aluminium White, yet this appears way to silvery. Thanks in advance.

Official variants are RAL 9006 ‘white aluminium’ or RAL 9007 ‘grey aluminium’.

Due to the failure of the 2+4 HST at Laira yesterday there was no set for the 0600 Penzance to Exeter St David’s this morning.

However it seems that Exeter depot has come to the rescue as the 0600 from Penzance will start from Liskeard formed of 143621!

It has stayed on the diagram and is now working the 0924 Exeter St David’s to Penzance.

A 4-car 143 formation made it to Penzance in recent years. Can’t remember the second unit. Originally due to go to Paignton but there were signalling problems at Newton Abbot so it was decided to send them to Penzance and back!

The only ‘rare’ route I’ve done on a GWR Pacer was between Westbury and Taunton.

Apologies for going off-topic.

JourneyCheck this morning reporting 06:00 Penzance to Exeter St David’s starting from Par again today with 2 vice 4 coaches due to a shortage of train drivers. Another 143?
