Reasonable, no. Expected, probably. 3 to 4 months is not unheard of. No doubt someone will have waited longer.

If it's a free ticket on the Northern network, they told me that they had run out multiple times (presumably due to the strikes). It took about 50 calendar days to receive mine.

How long? Try measuring this:

Wonder if the Customer Services Unit at Sheffield being contracted out to Carillion impacted on wait times.

It is not reasonable but it is nothing compared to how long I, and others, have had to wait for Northern rail to respond.

It is absolutely normal to be waiting for longer than this.

Are you waiting for a refund or for compensation owing to a delay?
Its a refund, we purchased tickets in advance for Manchester through the Virgin website when we got to our local station we were told they were invalid and had to buy them again. They weren't invalid so we made a claim against Northern Rail, having now processed the refund for payment they tell me that they have run out of cheques and the franking machine is broken. Me thinks they are taking the Mickey or something less attractive and in a liquid form. They seem to be able to run trains? but not their office.

:'( Still waiting for a response/acknowledgement to correspondence sent to Northern at the beginning of December 2017. Perhaps they have been snowed under!

Nine months seems a bit excessive, though!

Why do Northern take so long to respond? Do they not have a franchise commitment to respond within x amount of days? I submitted a complaint just over 2 weeks ago, so guess I've a while yet until I can expect a response

I sent in a complaint at the end of January and received a pair of their free return tickets just over a week ago.

Sometimes you can get a quicker response when it is very busy as they will just pay out on everything that is clear cut rather than assessing them all.

I have been very lucky regarding refunds from rail operators. I sent off a complaint form to northern last year , I received a northern rail voucher a fortnight later.

My partner and myself were delayed by trans Pennine by over an hour last year, I received a part refund after three weeks- Whilst my other half had to wait for six weeks. The reason - I believe is because I went in to great detail about my journey, Where as my partner just stuck the ticket in and said the train was delayed.
