does anyone know what arriva trains wales have planned for the next timetable change.

i know work is due to start on upgrading the chester to wrexham line to allow for trains every half hour in november, not sure if that would be ready for 2010.

trains to liverpool from wrexham were promised ages ago, ive not heard any more news about that.

if i was in charge of timetables, i would extend the bidston serive to shrewsbury (calling at gobowen only). and i will alter the heart of wales timetable so people can return home the same day.

The December 09 timetable was only offered back to the TOC/FOCs just over a fortnight ago. They have to respond first and NR will make any tweaks necessary. As for Chester - Wrexham, if you mean the re-doubling and other bits, thats at least 2 years away. I wouldnt expect anything astounding to happen to the ATW timetable.

thank you for informing me about the work between wrexham and chester, i cant believe 2 towns so close together have a really poor rail service.

i hope there is an extra 1st class premier service because they have time to do holyhead to cardiff and back, twice in a day. holyhead to cardiff b4 9am would be nice.

that means the train wont have much of a wait at llandudno, unless an extra train is added to the service

No, clearance issues for the 158s, and a few internal wranglings, will be May 10, unless they come in with a late bid for Dec 09.

Yes it will mate,as the Dec 08 change, made it possible due to the fact that the train is now waiting 50 minutes at the Mayfield loop. This was done so that in future the service could go to the airport, which should be this December.

Minister of Rail in Wales wants the Chester to Shrewsbury line to have its dynamic curves ready for Gerald by December 2010 latest.
You are correct the two largest towns in North Wales & East Cheshire
have a poor rail service,Single track Wrexham to Saltney.
The brand new buses 5 an hour each way to Chester Station already running from Wrexham are in place for a total shutdown of the line, this service is shortly to call at Wrexham Stn soon to become an interchange,

I have a copy of Arriva's draft for Timetable 81 (Crewe/Manchester - North Wales) for the Monday - Friday services, courtesy of a statutory consultee. I haven't had the time to dig through it, but I've just glanced at it in comparison with last December's draft. The timings for the Llandudno-Manchester run appear to be identical (comparing mid-morning diagrams). No diagrams are shown between Piccadilly and the Airport, but a empty line has been added for Airport timings.

If anyone would like a copy of the draft, drop me a PM.

The Minister needs to consider his timescales then. The final option hasnt even been signed off by NR and wont be for a few months yet. They are not "dynamic curves" either, its just twin tracking at Wrexham and at Saltney.

LOL, I wouldnt care if the fly didnt, considering I see the aspirations and plans from the start. If the 158s get their clearance, there is nothing to stop them starting in December if they want.

Do you mean twin tracks all the way? surprised

Can the ORR give consent that soon?, I was not aware ATW had applied, then
there would be months of pros & cons, as W/S & others are bound to object.

No, it isnt twin track all the way, the middle section stays single between the road bridges.

There isnt much WSMR can object to though, the paths are there and there is no moderation of competition to deal with as ATW have established contractural paths through the West Mids.

I trust you have a reliable source for this information as it's the first I have (and I'm guessing anyone else on here has) heard of this! Who is planning on shutting down the line? Why has nothing appeared in the news about it? Is this just lazy conjecture due to the fact an intense bus service exists between Wrexham and Chester stations?

I'm sure the inhabitants of Gresford, Rossett and the other villages between Wrexham and Chester appreciate the fact that they have direct links to both stations. I'm assuming the bus will terminate in the car park of Wrexham General if your info is correct? Either that or it is to be rerouted via the bypass?

...oh, the irony...

It may be a good idea for you read back on the objections submitted by ATW before WSMR launched, total poppycock as all their objections or most of them especially the proposed downturn in PPM were incorrect

Network Rail's website shows ATW's Marylebone consultation as having been completed, but doesn't have any of the consultation responses. I can't find WSMR's original application at the moment.

The taxi office at Wrexham Station is to be established within the Station to create space now objections have been overcome, I am surprised you have not heard about the interchange, the brand new buses have been put in place, all marked Wrexham/Chester station run by Arriva, this is not conjecture ask any bus driver why they are rerouted to Chester Station.
The line as to be shut down for semi Double tracking as the planner I think
knows a lot about this.
I agree it is nice to have five buses an hour now routed via the villages
you quote. When Wrexham General becomes an interchange all Chester
Buses will call at Wrexham General while the line is semi double tracked.
A recient meeting of SCRUA was briefed on this by WCBC & ATW

...oh, the irony...

Of course the Irony, read ATWs 17 page objection to W/S starting a service
between Wrexham & London, I did, the ORR was not fooled by it.

I agree no responces shown, and there were many,Statutory & Voluntary sector responces negative to the idea, as well as positive.

I hadn't heard about any of this (I do spend most of my time in the East Midlands these days and sometimes rely on forums like this and the er...Evening Leader website (!) for info about home).

Is this something that will happen if the infrastructure work goes ahead or has the installation of new track north of Wrexham already been approved? I thought this was still being discussed and nothing had been confirmed yet?

Its up to GRIP stages 3 and 4 which means its at the point where a final option is chosen and performance modelling etc is undertaken. If the results arent favourable then it wont be taken forward, though the chances of that on this scheme are very slim.

It should also be noted that rumours are flying about which are looking to be very true that the WAG express is to be withdrawn from december 2009

Its been offered back by us for December 09, unless WAG tell ATW to pull it which Id find unliklely, Id imagine it to run. Especially when the Wrexham Saltney job and other associated work is linked with it.

A couple of points, the taxi office is being shifted into the main building(W/S
area),this is to create yet more parking spaces on the R&J end and allow buses to swing around easier at the sorting office end is what we were told by WCBC, surprising the only objection to moving the taxi office came from the stations Management.

As far as the WAG Express is concerned, nothing tells us it is to finish,in fact the opposite, the Minister is still talking about a South/North, on the final day of the Assembley the local A.M Lesley Griffiths thanked the Minister for
informing that all Holyhead/Cardiffs will travel by Wrexham when the track
is completed.

The track from Wrexham to Saltney is also now a top priority according to the
A.Ms, WCBC have also got this pledge.

The WAG air, Mona to Roose is more at risk than the Rail Service, now we have all this chatter about ATW to Ringway which should have occured years ago,

Those are two different airfields on Anglesey. Valley has the main RAF training school, mountain rescue and the flights to Cardiff (Rhoose). Mona is a smaller relief airfield in the centre of Anglesey.

Yes I confused the two, you are both correct, I was thinking of the one opposite the Showground with the large revolving antenna. Below quote from the DP 16th July.

The WAG’s Wales Transport Strategy also said air service could be renewed after the current deal expires in May 2010.

A WAG spokesman said: “Officials are currently considering options for the North-South air service after May 2010.”

When looking at their Transport Plan, it's clear that they are more enthusiastic about rail for north-south travel:

WAG on rail said:
We will:
  • Continue to support our flagship Y Gerallt Gymro Holyhead to Cardiff fast train service, and a programme of continued improvements in rail services between north and south Wales.
  • Develop plans to enhance the capacity of the section of rail between Shrewsbury and Chester via Wrexham to permit fater service between North and South Wales, and potentially more frequencies, by 2011. This will enable all north-south service to be routed via Wrexham.

WAG on air said:
We will:
  • Undertake a review of options for the intra-Wales air service, following the expiry of the current contract in May 2010.
