Carnet tickets at Kings Cross Barriers

Carnet tickets haven't seemed to work at the barriers at Kings Cross since December.
The extra time to locate gate staff and then queue to get through is now regularly making me miss my onward connection in the morning. I'm getting rather fed up. I asked at the gate today when they might reprogram the gates to accept them again and was told that they wouldn't be due to high levels of fraud. Can this be right that they're inconveniencing lawful paying customers permanently because of this? Seem rather unfair.
I only work in London 3 days a week so I don't have much choice.

Yep. This is true at Welwyn garden city as well. (Gates always open in the evening)

It is exceptionally frustrating.

GTR could resolve fraud on these tickets instantly and put them on the key. The choose not to. If you want to use the fraudulently you still can. They are as normal just penalising the honest traveller. I guess WGC is always checked because old street has no barriers in the morning.

I would suggest writing in putting in a complaint. Mention in it that they could resolve fraud instantly by using the key. When are the going to do so?

Oddly enough they were going through the barriers at WGC last week, but not this week again.

They were stamping the tickets at WGC this morning including hole punching where date goes. On person not happy. “What if I get stopped by an RPI and they can’t read the date?”

Kings cross is extremely annoying. I wonder if you can claim delay repay if you miss the train?

As I said does nothing to stop fraud. Especially considering they are accepted by London Underground barriers.

Is it only Kings Cross where you can buy Carnet tickets?
Can't seem to see them anywhere else.
Why is that?

I hate tickets where you have to physically write dates in - there is so much scope for error and claims by inspectors that you have "altered" dates. There are also issues with the number 7 i.e. do you put a stroke through it or not.

Since Brexit, 7 is always written without a stroke through the middle.

I see what you mean. Not sure where you can find a comprehensive list. Set by individual TOC between certain station pairs. For example WGC has them to London, but may not to Stevenage.

I know ChilternRail and Scotrail have them on certain routes

This week I've had a revenue officer on the train into London ~ New Southgate - stamped the ticket 3x, same by two of the gates at KGX on way home to WGC. One ticket worked at gates from WGC on Monday, though didn't Tuesday. Seems to be an odd pattern. I tried ticket out at KGX on Tuesday, still Seek Staff Assistance.
