Hi guys...pre screen questions ask if you live within 45min commutable distance from home address? I currently live in Wales but have family in Manchester where I could live so to speak. Would it matter if I said yes or no to the distance? Just don't want to be disregarded for saying the wrong thing. What do you all think?

If you lie on the application form and it is found out at a later date you are risking your job. Best advice is to be 100% honest as it is one of the key qualities they look for in a Driver. They need to be able to trust the person they put in the front of a train with responsibility for hundreds of lives so telling lies on the application form doesn't exactly get you off on the best start proving that you can be trusted.

They check the distances anyway using an online journey planner.

If I say no because of my address in Wales am I likely to be told that I cannot apply or be disregarded in favour of nearer applicants? I think under the Abellio guise they would not take relocators. I don't know if this policy has continued into the new franchise. This will probably provoke howls of outrage but if I were you (and could guarantee I could live at the Manchester address at least until you get somewhere yourself) I'd be inclined to use that address.

It is clearly dishonest if you claim to live somewhere you dont.

The reason for the 45 mins is down to a depot fatigue index.

When they find out (and they will) you would be dismissed immediately.

If your primary address is in Wales then that is the address you should put that. If it's outside the 45 minutes then that is the way the cookie crumbles I'm afraid. The address of your family in Manchester is not your home address so it is still dishonest to imply that it is. Sorry but they are strict on this for very good reason.

I know you can’t have two live applications at once and I applied to Wigan start of September, but with not getting any response from my wigan application what so ever a YES or a NO in the last 3.5 months other than a generic email regarding sifting through applications and business needs when I contacted them. Also reading other posts on here regarding the positions being already filled. I’m assuming I now don’t have a live application? So can I apply for Manchester before the deadline?

Just apply you’ve nothing to lose they will just cancel one of the applications you don’t want to miss the deadline I’ve applied for both and it’s been accepted i just selected no to the live question as it’s unclear whether it’s live or not due to being on hold.

I know someone who used a relatives address for his application to get around the 45 minute rule. But his intention was to move to the city of the depot he applied to if successful. He got the job and moved straight away before the course started.

You couldn't realistically do the job and lie about where you live. The training would be too much as it is long hours with loads of homework/revision.
I applied for Northern and TPE and told them I was planning on relocating from London. Both offered a job and both had no problems with my plans to relocate to the NW if I was offered the position.

I appreciate your comments...but I phoned Northern and spoke to their HR department. They confirmed to me they would not consider an application from someone living elsewhere even if they were prepared to relocate. The reason they gave for this is because they have had people promise this in the past, but then not fulfill their promise. They told me they will only accept local applicants.

They were fine with me re-locating from London in 2012. Maybe their policy has changed in the years since. I would probably go with the blag address and re-locate if I was given the job then. You couldn't realistically commute though.

Also I didn't really say on here that I would lie to any future employers about my location or other personal details lol.
