Posted on the northern news twitter page about the 150s transferring from GWR and I thought they was all coming but it says 13 are being refurbished.
https://twitter.com/northern_pr/status/941709406546182144
The link to the Northern Website from the Tweet mentions "The 150s will feature a full interior and exterior refurbishment, as well as the installation of new seating". What does it mean by new Seating? Is it actually brand new Seating e.g. Ironing Boards or just a new Moquette?

The article on said website > https://www.northernrailway.co.uk/news/latest-news/1647-rail-minister-views-150-refurbishment

Edit: Looking in the interior it looks very similar the the refurbished 150 142

Based on the "fully refurbished" 150 that has already been done (150142), I doubt that these will get the Ironing Boards. What's more likely is (if they have any in store) Chapman seats will be installed with the new Moquette (iirc the ex GWR 150s currently being refurbished for Northern have ashbourne seats).

Where would they get the Chapman Seats from? The ex-Alphaline ones taken from the Arriva 158's when they were replaced with Grammar seats?

If the ex-Alphaline seats haven't already been used in other stock then I reckon they would be used, though it wouldn't surprise me if they had some Chapman seats in storage somewhere, not enough for all the 150s, but enough for one or two of them. The 156s are supposed to be getting Ironing Boards, so the Chapman seats removed from them could also be used in 150s, with the Richmond seats disposed of.

Why would you fit ironing boards in place of Chapmans? Madness!

Most Mark 1 stock ran with original seating throughout their lives, and I don't remember a fuss being kicked up about 'aged' seating, maybe because it was so comfortable compared with what we have now.

The Chapman seats aren't made anymore, so there is only a certain number of them the Northern can use, which won't cover the whole fleet. It is possible to use them on the 150s as some had them already, the ones used in the 156s and 158s can be put into 150s, and there also may be some Chapman seats in store. This is only possible if Ironing Boards (or I suppose they could use grammar seats, but we know they probably won't) are used in everything else the Northern are refurbishing

I understand this. The Ashbourne seats seem to be almost universally hated these days, so I guess their replacement needs to be a priority.

If Ashbourne seats are the lower backed ones (as I think they are having read an earlier post) then they're certainly my preference- much better padding!

I agree. Low backs, and most importantly, proper padded seats.

Still looks to have the Ashbourne seats in that photo - too square on the corners compared to Chapmans. Seems to be a bit strange to refit them having taken them out to repaint interior and possibly replace the floor? Who knows with Northern!!

That's very inconvenient.
Why waste your time wondering if 150s will be changing seats , it’s not happening, they have 7-8 years left , northern won’t pay and neither will angel, even if they had more chapmans it’s not a case of just bolting them in , the Lino would be back up and all the t bolts would need changing as they Are a different length on the chapmans .

Awful seats - I'll be glad to see the back of them, even if the replacements are ironing boards!

The ex-FNW units which have Chapman seats already seem to have metal sections underneath which are shorter than the seats.

They seem to be only suitable for those with heights between around 5 ft 6 and 5 ft 8 given they have a section which is supposed to stick in the curve of your back, but is not adjustable and also considering trains with those seats don't have much leg room.

Were 001 and 002 ever meant to go north? I thought they were being kept at GW anyway as they are non standard in terms of fuel capacity and therefore achievable mileage. Regarding differences, the engines are different to the rest of the 15x fleet being NT855R4 units as opposed to NT855R5 and the crew doors are sliding type like 150/2 and of course the units are 3 car and had air con while classified class 154, but are there any other major differences? Why were slam crew doors used on 150/1 which followed?

Does anybody know if Northern have actually withdrawn units from service in order to refurbish them - i.e. so less trains are available to cover service? Or are they being swapped out with other units that are arriving - as part the press release above? I've found since September that my line is suffering regularly. This morning no services on the Hope Valley line ran doubled up - which means anybody boarding on those affected services (most of them!) after Bredbury probably won't get on. The twitter feed response is always apologetic and confirms that all trains available trains are in service, and things should get better in a couple of years time.

Incidentally I was on a refurbed train over the weekend and heard lots of people commenting on it, realising it looked fresh, but that it was just an old train (especially as it still had the old worn Northern fabric on the seats).

150 001 and 002 have both had the 400gallon tanks fitted to bring them in line with the others , they have had a full interior refresh so I imagine there staying at reading depot

A list was posted in Post #2207 including these in a list of 150s to be transferred to Northern. This was queried when the previous such post was posted. I got the impression that many people up North had the impression they were moving to Northern

The slam doors are unique to the 150 -1 , the aircon is removed and roof plated over , the luggage racks are different to other 150s they have a grab pole similar to 318 original racks , the interior ceiling is a different profile to the rest of the fleet ,

Northern are going to be forming 3 car units , I don’t think the 150-0 will be coming north as gwr paid a lot of money for the refresh
