I think there is booked work for these, I did attempt to work out what the diagrams were once, but I could never quite get theory to match up with observation! There are though, 75mph paths for certain services which is a good give away!

There are 14 diagrams for 16 units Mon - Sat, including Inverclydes. Short notice step ups can occur at any time if one fails (a not infrequent occurrance at the moment!) but you'll find them on many of the fast 1G Gourock services, a few of the 2G stoppers and the following -

2W41 06:32 Glasgow Central - Wemyss Bay
1W37 08:55 Glasgow Central - Wemyss Bay
1W33 10:57 Glasgow Central - Wemyss Bay
1W29 12:57 Glasgow Central - Wemyss Bay
1W25 14:57 Glasgow Central - Wemyss Bay
2W15 18:40 Glasgow Central - Wemyss Bay
2W07 22:36 Glasgow Central - Wemyss Bay

I don't believe there are any 314's on the Paisley to Ayr route (were there ever any?)

According to a video on Youtube , there was a peak Kilwinning to Glasgow in 2014 . I know they have gone down that way when there was the cold snap in 2010.

I believe this was a rare occurrence despite what that video says. The 314s have generally only appeared on the Ayrshire routes during cold snaps as you mention.

They did sometimes appear on a PM Glasgow Central - Ardrossan service shortly after replacing the 303s on high level services from the late 90s, but I'm not sure if it was ever a permanent thing.

In all my time commuting in/out Glasgow Central and Paisley Gilmour Street, can't say I've ever seen a 314 heading to/from Ayrshire - which is not to say they've never been (there's evidence above) but obviously a pretty rare occurrence. There was the regular 2 x 303 diagram between Central and Ardrossan - something like 1715 ex Central? So I guess 314s might have worked that during the transition from 303s?

As others have said, a pretty sizable proportion of the Inverclydes are currently 314s.

I haven't checked the Inverclyde WTT for a while, but at one time all the paths were for 75mph units regardless of actual diagrams. I'm not sure there's actually that much (if any) of the Inverclyde line which has speed limits above 75mph?

The 1055 and 1155 Glasgow Central to Gourock are 314's for definite. They also work some other Gourocks.

All Gourock services are timed as 314 timing loads as they are the fastest SRTs on the route due to their superior acceleration

On the Christmas Saturdays the 380s are being used to strengthen the Ayrshires to 6/7 cars and its class 314s on the majority of Inverclyde services, much to the dismay of the customers.

The major factor in why 314s don't go to Ayrshire is that Ayr drivers don't sign class 314s.
