^Okay, where do I ask about opportunities to ride?
Just go to Post #1
I took his post to be asking about getting to a station served by the *GWR IET initial diagrams*, in order to travel on/view the *GWR IET initial diagrams* in service. One could be excused surely by asking this in a thread entitled *GWR IET initial diagrams*, no??
Sorry if any of that sounds a bit flippant, it wasn't intended. ;)

Interesting, both times I've got Taunton bound services there have been waits/delays at Temple Meads. I thought it might be while they try and clear out the rear set of 5 coaches.

Aye, I have noticed that. Might take a while to check that the rear 5 are empty and then locked OOU.

So they don't go to Taunton at the moment? Fact is, my opportunity will probably come in the first week of the new year. Isn't there a timetable change by then? If so, when will we know the new IET diagrams?

The initial post seems to suggest not although I joined the 1930 Padd-Weston service at Temple Meads last friday and that was a IET.

I believe the changes came in yesterday (monday). 100% the 17:30 was a HST yesterday. Not sure about the 19:30.

Sorry if already posted here or elsewhere.

From January 2018 there will be the following Class 800 workings to Taunton:-

a) 1C22 1630 Paddington - Taunton via Bristol Temple Meads.

Then empty to Stoke Gifford.

b) 1C24 1730 Paddington - Taunton via Bristol Temple Meads.

1A37 2127 Taunton - Paddington via
Bristol Temple Meads.

c) 1A09 0712 Taunton-Paddington via
Bristol Temple Meads.

These apply Monday to Friday from 1st January.

This was posted on the "frequently requested diagrams" updates thread.

There is engineering work currently affecting the IET diagrams hence the temporary alterations to evening services. This will presumably change back at some point.

There are STP paths all this week which involve splitting and joining units at Bristol Temple Meads and leaving one behind (which is what the 1730 London Paddington to Taunton is meant to do but hasn't to date). It didn't run yesterday but today, the following workings occurred.

5Z19 0934 North Pole Iep Depot to Taunton Signal E483
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K97557/2017/11/28/advanced
detaches in platform 15
5Z20 1209 Bristol Temple Meads to Bedminster
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K97558/2017/11/28/advanced
5Z21 1225 Bedminster to Stoke Gifford
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K97559/2017/11/28/advanced
5Z22 1430 Stoke Gifford to Bristol Temple Meads
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K97556/2017/11/28/advanced
attaches in platform 3
5Z23 1351 Taunton Signal E483 to North Pole Iep Depot
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K97560/2017/11/28/advanced

Seems a bit elaborate for just testing splitting and joining unless the only spare units are at the London end.

That’s helpful thank you for posting. Does anyone know of any other further diagrams to be introduced other than just to Taunton? :D

2 more weeks. Plan is currently 4 new diagrams (2x 10 car) every 4 weeks.

According to CIS 1730 Paddington to Taunton would have been an IEP

The return 1A37 to Paddington was shown as a 10 Car, Rear 5 not in use, but by the time it appeared on the CIS at Chippenham it had changed to 8 carriages (HST)

Any ideas when the 800's will reach Cheltenham? I've had a quick look through the thread and searched the site and elsewhere and can't se any info, so was wondering if it was happening in the new year or a long way off!

I've been on a few from Chippenham but Kemble is easier :)

And before I get lynched alive, I like a HST as much as the next man but they are pretty rock and roll, I'm on one now and nearly had my tea over my laptop and I nearly felt sea sick on the way up!

June 2018, when the 9 cars enter service.

When will these "superior" new trains be as fast as the the hst were over 30 years ago. I've got the old timetables that show how fast the journey times were then. London to Swindon in 42 minutes, now it's at least on hour. Parkway to London in 63 minutes.
When will the new trains be faster then trains built in the mid 70s?
Never .
Not everyone has selective or short memories when it comes to train timings.

The increased journey times you see today have nothing to do with the speed of trains - much more to do with additional stops, increased congestion due to more trains, more recovery time etc etc.

Yes the GWML has different characteristics to the East Coast and West Coast mainlines. Stations much closer together, plus the growth of Didcot and the importance of Reading. Still, there will be regular non stop services from Bristol Parkway in the new timetable when all IETs are in service, so times will speed up

I think we are getting off topic again away from diagrams as already pointed out by Mods

It was considered off-topic to assist someone in getting to a location to see this topic's diagrams, so the last couple of posts were definitely o/t.!! ;)

Cheers and glad you haven't taken offence, Mods Post #282 refers.

Not at all! I get annoyed by thread drift myself so should have known better! I got carried away in my enthusiasm to answer the preceding post!

What are next week's new diagrams? One potentially seems to require some splitting. From RTT I have them as:

2Y03 0603 Bristol Temple Meads to Weston-super-Mare 0634
1A07 0648 Weston-super-Mare to Bristol Temple Meads 0723
joins
5A07 0638 Stoke Gifford to Bristol Temple Meads 0703
to from
1A07 0730 Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington 0912
1B20 0945 London Paddington to Swansea 1242
1L66 1328 Swansea to London Paddington 1632
1B63 1715 London Paddington to Swansea 2023
splits
1B63 2034 Swansea to Carmarthen 2123
5B63 2127 Carmarthen to Swansea 2213

and

1L32 0658 Swansea to London Paddington 0957
1C10 1030 London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads 1211
1A18 1300 Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington 1438
1C20 1530 London Paddington to Weston-super-Mare 1750
1A29 1809 Weston-super-Mare to London Paddington 2014
1C31 2045 London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads 2228
5C31 2258 Bristol Temple Meads to Stoke Gifford 2330

It looks like movements into Maliphant Depot don't make it onto the Network Rail feed.

There also seems to be a working to Chippenham late evening although it is not clear which unit they use.

5T32 2214 Bristol Temple Meads to Chippenham 2236
1T32 2259 Chippenham to Bristol Temple Meads 2331
5T33 2338 Bristol Temple Meads to Stoke Gifford 0002

Workings to/from Maliphant are not currently timed, but worked 'ad-hoc' similar to the current arrangement with Landore. I believe this situation will change, pending generation of a new timing point for the IET depot.
