I’m really surprised GTR didn’t put any of you through To at least the first stage. I’ve known them to give many people a chance without a rail background. Perhaps it’s the role, maybe higher salary they want internal or experience related to the role?

Erm I'm not too sure I have security experience which links to the role ? But can't seem to get in contact with them anyways they don't respond . No rejection email either so I'm not too sure .

Hi mario I have heard and have received in the past no responses but do keep sending emails they will get back to you. however, if perhaps you have no previous experience in Rail they may be hesitant however they offer many roles ie platforms and gateline which they will pass through screening and perhaps it’s a way in there, however they may still be reviewing applications and will get back to you perhaps.

However you may have Rail experience or perhaps usually for a role of 30k and up, they want a lot of experience

The vetting is the same as a Police Officer for this post and is carried out by BTP, which is a lot more thorough than a DBS check usually carried out. With that in mind, maybe with certain questions about background in the application form led them to think vetting might be an issue? BTP can be very picky with who they grant vetting to, with otherwise very mundane misdemeanours being a bar to gaining clearance. It's a contentious point.

Just got this .
Following on from your recent application for Rail Enforcement Officer: Thameslink Route (North) + Future Vacancies role, we would, like to keep you updated with the progress.

Due to the large numbers of applications for this role, screening will take longer than usual to complete. We will keep you updated periodically to let you know how your application is progressing.

Whilst your application status reads either “External New” or “Internal New” this means that we are still screening your application.

Thank you for your patience at this time.

Regards

Hi Mario1, did you contact the HR department today by any chance?

They might be vetting all candidates prior to moving forward with them. This makes sense so as to save money later down the line if they offer someone a job but they subsequently fail police vetting. Unfotunately vetting is in the hands of the BTP and can take 8 to 12 weeks to complete.Might not be this that's delaying matters, but it's possibility.

I applied back in early December, had a assessment day Jan, interview in Feb. Apparently I've passed but I am told they won't be making a decision until they've done all assessments and interviews, anyone know if they are still running these or am I being given the run around?

Would be really grateful to hear from anyone else who applied or knows anything?

Good morning, I was posting in regards to the same job but I have appllied for the southern half. I was wondering whether someone could give me some advice on the assessment, and if their are any information I should have before I get the assessment. I have an understanding of the bylaws of the railway which is section 219 of the Transport act 2000 and I have understanding of parts of The Regulations Of The Railway Act 1889. Was their any more things I should know or have an understanding of before I get to the assessment and if their is any scenario examples of what they give will be helpful

Many thanks guys

Hi, it's likely that the assessment won't focus on the specifics of the job such as Byelaws and the RRA 1889. It'll likely consist of assessments to judge your aptitude for the job, that they use for assessing people for most jobs at the same company.

Have they said why it shows as this on the tracker, yet you've not heard anything?

They said they have had hundreds of people apply and that they are assessing everyone before making a decision.

Apparently I have passed everything and will at least be kept in the talent pool for future vacancies, but they are yet to decide who gets the current ones.

I was told 5 weeks ago they would make a decision in a fortnight and let people know either way, still haven't heard. Chased them up but no response... So I think there may be money issues or the like...

It didn't.

There's a multiple choice test, based on a pamphlet they give you to read.

A group discussion, my advice is mot to be the leader and to stick firmly to the middle ground...

Then a roleplay, people with feet on seats, that kind of thing..

Lastly a report writing test

You'll probably find they have a commitment under their franchise to have a certain amount of accredited staff (REOs in GTR's case), this means that regardless of their financial position, short of contracting the security type roles out, they have to recruit staff when someone leaves. I doubt they'd have any REOs or similar at all unless the DfT said they had to.
