I imagine these lights are on a timer but could they be controlled remotely?
I'm seeing 1E21, 1A96 and 1E23, or is 23 getting cut short?

Trainwise yes. People on VTEC twitter complaining the coaches have not turned up at Spalding

Heads should roll. And I'm not being hyperbolic, I mean it. Whoever in control thought that is acceptable should be getting a meeting sans biscuits and a P45. I can't help but wonder who threw those stones.

Something has gone very wrong on VTEC at a time of disruption. Again. Last time it was a Saturday night. Today a Sunday night. Do they have the correct resource level on duty out of office hours?

Well, we've just passed through Peterborough platform 1 non-stop - Peterborough is a graveyard of stricken VTEC trains seemingly (at least 3 trains in the station, including one in total darkness that looked to be full of people?).

I am somewhat at a loss why the broken window caused the train to stay stopped for so long and then could move again. Has it been boarded over in order for it to move? Surely it could have kept going at a slower speed to save blocking the line un? I realise the safety of passengers must be considered and those lineside as well.
You sure those aren't old messages? The information that was provided to me suggested they were all clear by 2120.

Must be hard for VTEC trains out of position, crew hours expiring, trains that are running totally full. One would hope they could call in extra crews but these days there is little slack in the system. I once tried to get cable repair staff in only to find that half were away with Liverpool and the remainder were at the Everton game. They must also have their eyes on getting stock in place for tomorrow. No fun for those stuck at Spalding, even when they start moving they still have to perhaps make other now non-existent bus and train connections to finish their journeys.

Just left PBO station to utter chaos...
Trains coming in left, right and centre - people scrumming for seats, people having to be helped off trains after collapsing.....

2 coaches turned up just as I was leaving, full of (i guess) passengers from Spalding - only to find that RAM PACKED trains had just left going both North & South from PBO.

I am very glad that I wasn't caught up in this as I was on Scotland but got a lift to Preston got back to Peterborough there was an Emt train presumably on hire to ec and an ex a few delays and lots of confused people and not many staff didn't look good

It didn't look like it, but Twitter has gone down the Facebook route of not showing things chronologically, so I may well be wrong.
Still, taking what- three hours?- to clear a station which is closed on Sundays in freezing temperatures is disgraceful.
I'm just glad I missed it- and only just, I was on the 0855 from Newcastle this morning- as it is shambolic. Again.
Not sure what you're suggesting a guy sat in York (I presume that's where the Control Office is) can do differently?

3 coaches did arrive (in remarkably good time based on when they were ordered on a Sunday evening) and, together with a train, did manage to ferry all the stranded passengers. BTP had to break into the waiting room in the end as the conditions were so inhospitable. 4 trains failed to call and one was forced to stop but could not have its doors opened due to overloading.
Passengers shouldn't have been detrained onto a cold dark unstaffed platform in the middle of knowhere, with no plan to get them on their way quickly. They should have stayed on the failed train and been hauled with it, even if that meant heading back to Doncaster.
You never know what will happen next on the ECML lately, each report of disruption gets more and more extreme. If it isn't people stuck on trains in the middle of summer for 4 hours, it's now people stuck outside for many hours in winter!

So what do you expect them to do?
I note that you are very quick to criticise but have failed to suggest a sensible and practical response. From the reports by others on here they have tried to do everything they can. They cannot magic extra trains or coaches out of thin air.

Can the timers on the station lights at places like Spalding only be changed/overridden locally or can route control or NR remotely change/override them?
What about not detaining people where it's abundantly clear that there will be no facilities to keep them warm, no toilets and limited immediate access to food and drink?
Yes it does seem a bit optimistic 2 coaches for direct Doncaster to Hull, and 1 for stops.
I would hope that they have taken a good look at the reservation data to understand how many were only going as far as Doncaster (which could well be greater than usual given the lack of VTEC services to West Yorkshire).

Was chaos when I turned up at Peterborough around 8pm this evening. Two London-bound Grand Centrals terminated shortly after and all passengers sent to platform 2 for the 4 car Great Northern on all stations to Kings Cross.
Delayed 2005 Virgin East Coast to London also full and standing. Eventually made my way to London on the additional 2115 8 car Great Northern via Huntingdon and Stevenage, which left Peterborough .
