G'day everyone,

Having had a wonderful time at the steam gala today I wonder if anyone can give an update on three loco's / units which we saw at Grosmont.

A Sulzer type 2 which I'm guessing is a class 24.

A DMU seemingly dumped in the MPD headshunt next to a class 08 which also doesn't appear to have moved in a while.

And finally the frames and wheels (and possibly outside motion) of what looked like a 4-6-0 steam loco right at the end of the head shunt.

Any ideas anyone?

Kind regards,

Richmond Commuter!

that one? D5061 The other class 24 (D5032) is in for overhaul and the 25 is running

that one? 101680 in think - Due an overhaul at some point

What colour was the 08?

that one? I THINK that is 30841 Greene King - something is wrong with the frames so it has been used as a source of parts to keep sister class locos running.

Many thanks for all of this information.

Yes D5061 was the one we saw and sadly it was looking in a bit of a sorry state. In all fairness I'd not noticed that two class 24s were based on the line. The class 25 was top and tailing services on the Whitby line and very smart it looked too.

The class 08 was in green and is clearly not operable at the moment but in all fairness the line doesn't appear to be short of class 08s so perhaps it's being used for spares.

If the Green 08 was 08556 then it went under its own power to Grosmont just over a week ago.
Used as the Newbridge PW yard loco. Gone to Grosmont for a bit of attention.
Usually very reliable and must be the highest mileage 08 on the NYMR as it is often out and about on the line on Engineers trains, sometimes overnight.

The stand in at Newbridge is 08495

I didn't notice the number. It didn't look as clean as the other class 08s which made me think that it had perhaps not been in operation for a while.

It might have been a convenient time for the move if something else had to move as well.
I think 556 took the new arrival, Lucie the Cockerill engine, up to Grosmont as part of the working.

That's very true but I would have expected the shunter from Newbridge to go straight into the works for attention and not sit in the head shunt. That said many thanks for all the information that you have provided :)

It maybe would - if there was such a thing as a space for it! As it is it is in a siding awaiting its turn
