I've never seen anything TPE in Huddersfield P5, but that's because nothing they ever had would fit. I did once see a TPE 2-car 158 in P2 at a time of disruption, but it wasn't in use. And yes, it was after the Northern/TPE split!

I've never seen anything leave Leeds P14 in service, but I don't doubt that it happens now and then!
Only ever seen one service use P1 at Taunton (the south/west-facing bay on the down side) and that was a 153 during engineering works.

The 0602 Buxton to Kirkby Merseyside service almost always uses p3 at Stockport before going on to call at Heaton Chapel and Levenshulme because it leaves just 4 minutes behind the 0622 Macclesfield to Manchester Piccadilly, which uses p4 and... also calls at both Heaton Chapel and Levenshulme.

Talking about platforms, how much effort, time and money would it take to bring Platform 5 at Southampton back into full working passenger use? I’m aware it’s usually only used to stable stock, and the fact it’s only got a GPL, rather than an actual signal with relevant OFF indicator etc.

P14 does see a few morning departures to Selby before they switch to leaving from P7, and in the evening there are a few more departures including ones to York and Hull. It would probably see more use if the services from Selby didn't run through to Huddersfield via Bradford. Which does beg the question why do most services from Leeds start there, but most of the return legs run through?

You can at dunblane. Northbound. If a set has failed on the platform on the down main services can go round it using P3.

By all means, both stations have had through services on them platforms in the past, but nowadays it's very rare.

I've never seen SWR at the Southern end of Clapham Junction, neither Southern at the SWR end.
Never seen LO services off of the LO platforms, nor vice versa.

Never seen Scotrail or ATW on any platform at CLJ.

(I don't think I get this)

1) Heaton Chapel & Levenshulme departures going from Plat 3 Stockport or plat zero being used for Virgin or Cross Country.

Unless you set some parameters there will be thousands of examples.

Indeed. Just thinking about Stockport you can add Chester services to the list which never use platform 0 and if you think about platform 3A at Stockport then the list of services which never use is is the majority of services which serve Stockport.

There's also a big difference between can't e.g. an electric train can't depart from a platform with no overhead wires and aren't booked to which doesn't mean they don't during engineering works or other disruption.

I was sure it did get use, I'd just never seen it in use! Seen stuff stabled there occasionally but even those were nearly always EMUs, which obviously can't form a useful service from that platform!

Do any through trains ever use platform 4 at Tring (or even simply pass it)?

It is what I have been trying to find out for a long time, one of my local rare tracks that I have never been able to get!

I believe you cannot go north from it in real life, despite what is shown on SimSig and OpenTrainTimes maps etc, after a train was stuck there due to a fault with the south end cab and "no route available north" given in the log.

I believe a Virgin Train has gone through p4 south after overtaking a railtour that was stopped in p5 some time ago - unfortunately I could not get to the VT in time to get on it!

P4 is sometimes used on Saturday evenings when the WCML goes down to 2-track, mainly if a LM 350 is running late to allow a Virgin (or 2) to overtake.

As for Clapham Junction, I've seen LO services go into P17 when P1 is blocked, vice versa I've seen Southern services [on Sundays] start from P1 when the route towards P17 is blocked by engineering works

I guess that platforms 7 and 14 will see more action from May 18, when according to the consultation timetable, both the Selby and York stoppers start/terminate at Leeds.

Back to the original post, I've travelled on Calder Valley trains arriving at/departing from Leeds on most of the west-facing and through platforms - 1-6, 8-13 and 15-16, but never the southernmost west facing bay, platform 17. But Northern services seem to undergoing a small shuffle southwards recently and performing an all day realtraintimes search recently, I noticed the first departure of the day now leaving from 17.

I'd seen some of the early morning Selby services leaving when I've been heading up to the North East for meetings in the past, but did have a sneaky look on RTT to make sure they were still going from there. There are some late night TPE terminators & starters from both 14 & 7, which as far as I can see are the only TPEs that regularly use any bay platforms at Leeds (I could have sworn there was also one that used P17 but I can't see it anywhere).

I vaguely remember once using P17 for a Bradford / Calder Valley service during some disruption years ago. It sticks in my mind as the unit was originally booked to go to Sheffield via Cas but got switched just before it arrived from it’s incoming service, much to the annoyance of both the waiting Castleford & Sheffield passengers as well as the Bradford / Calder Valley who got shifted from P10 at the last minute!!

Of course some services you’ll never see from certain platforms are the Harrogates from P13/15/16/17 as well as P12A & B, as the Burley Park section can’t be reached from those (at least without some reversals).

I've never seen anything use platform 2 at Crewe, though I believe the EMT Derby carriage uses it sometimes, just never seen it.

Might be better to limit it to platforms (with track) which are not used by scheduled services.

Does anything ever use Fareham Platform 2? I have seen an MPV in there a couple of times, but that's all.

An early morning LM Euston service that came out of the carriage sheds used to use P2. I don't know if it still does but certainly did when I used to sometimes catch it a few years ago.

I’ve never seen a Pendolino depart from platforms 1 or 2 at Preston. They have Pendolino stop boards and I’ve seen Scotland – Manchester Airport TPE services use platform 2 occasionally when there has been disruption but no Virgin services.

I caught a train out of there a few weeks ago.
It's not that uncommon for CF-Pompeys to get turned round there when running very late.

They're not through trains :)

I thought there was one in the evening peak that was looped there but RTT suggests otherwise. Perhaps it was a one-off due to disruption when I (think I) saw it done.

No, but the question was about whether it was ever used, with the sub-question about passing trains in brackets. Hence my answer, yes it does get used. Often. :)

Yep, twice an hour roughly. It was built to allow for the Tring terminating local services to be introduced, previously they ran to Bletchley or MKC (and there was no SN service, nor I think as many semifasts).

Only just saw that the question did indeed specify through trains, in which case my previous post is null and void. Though I have passed through it on occasion, non-stopping, southbound (but not recently!).

:) No worries! I should have been clearer.

Platforms 2 and 8 at Crewe only have limited use.

The unelectrified platform 0 at Hooton is only used by excursion trains. Bay platform 1 sees very little use except when Merseyrail terminate Ellesmere Port trains there, which happens every time there is engineering work anywhere on the Wirral Line network.
