150276 on route to Leeds and Neville hill this afternoon on 5G31:
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/O26679/2017/09/12/advanced

Realtime Trains shows it terminating at Leeds (and standing in the way of the 1412 TPE Liverpool to Newcastle service). How has it got to Neville Hill?

Interesting that it has gone to Neville Hill instead of Newton Heath, and I notice that its journey from Carlisle has been classed as a Northern ECS working, rather than a freight (which the Kilmarnock to Newton Heath working was).

I see that there was a 0900 Newton Heath to Kilmarnock working scheduled for today, but it was cancelled. Driver stuck at Carlisle?

Interesting that it has gone to Neville Hill instead of Newton Heath, and I notice that its journey from Carlisle has been classed as a Northern ECS working, rather than a freight (which the Kilmarnock to Newton Heath working was).

If you think about it in a cost saving way it makes sense as Northern men do not sign via the WCML to Carlisle how ever some Leeds Crews sign 150s and the whole of the Settle and Carlisle line so it makes to use the staff when available. I am sure the driver enjoyed the none stop run!

She don't they just tag in on the back of a service train?

If it's in the formation, the crew still need to sign it even if it's on the rear. I think it's because of safety equipment like fire extinguishers (crew need to know where they are). Besides, on the Settle & Carlisle it's not unheard of for the line to be blocked by things like landslips. You wouldn't be able to reverse if the driver didn't sign the unit on the rear.

I'm sure that superkev's idea was that, being tagged on to a service train, there would be no need for a second crew.
Geeves implied (above) that not all Leeds-based crews are trained on 150s (they presumably run into Leeds from Manchester, but none are based there) so the crews trained on them are likely to be those working on a Manchester link, and not necessarily those working on a Carlisle link (if, of course, the two links are separate). Also there would be the question of who was going to shunt 150276 at Carlisle (and, from where it had been abandoned, there would be quite a bit of shunting to do).
So tagging it on to a service train might have been tempting, but probably easier said than done.

I believe all Leeds Skipton drivers sign and 150's stray to Carlisle occasionally.

Reason it may not have coupled to a service train is after it failed, it was made a 'Not to Couple' at the Alpha/Bravo end.

Sorry I wasnt too clear...I believe all Leeds crews do sign 150s how ever only 1 link signs the Settle and Carlisle line whether that one link is split into A and B I do not know. The wait could have been for a driver in addition to not being able to couple as Loop and Link says. I guess we will never know! I dont think Skipton depot sign the route and Carlisle depot do but don't currently sign 150s of any variety! Its a twisted web out there!

Well I took advantage of one of the charging points on 158906 last night, but I failed to get connected to the Internet. The PIS was blank.

From what I can remember being told i *think* the link that signs the S&C at Leeds is 1A which has 36 guards and drivers in it (or at least that's what I was told a fair while ago now). Only two services each day are operated by Leeds crew

All Skipton crews sign the route and work the majority of services over it and do sign 150s - regular traction down the Bentham line

All Carlisle crew also sign the route but don't sign 150s for obvious reasons, as northern found out the hard way last year...

...one diagram at least is brought up by a Leeds crew and goes back with a Carlisle crew. I think you can guess what was said when the Carlisle crew turned up and saw a 150 waiting there for them...!

Doesn't surprise me. Haven't seen the wifi or PIS working for well over 6 months now. Good to know the chargers still work though!

Yesterday I saw a 158/9 travelling from Loughborough to Neville Hill at Leeds, any ideas what this is about? Also I went on 155 346 and the PA was sounding very dodgy and the new toilet was broken.

PRM modifications at Loughborough for the 158. And the 155 toilet locks itself out of use if it has either run out of fresh water to flush or the CET tank is full. I don't think the planners have realised it can't stay out as long as it used to without a visit for filling and emptying

Currently on 319424, which is on this morning's 07:38 MCV-LIV service.

Although in the new Northern livery, it still has the old style seating including the declassified first class section.
